Songs you'd like to hear at a dinner cabaret

Somehow this doesn’t quite seem like the right forum for this kind of question, but we’ll see.

Anyway, I’ve got to come up with a set list for a proposal to do a cabaret-type show at a country club around here. I’m thinking soul/blues/jazz kind of songs. There’ll be both men and women singing. Right now I’ve just got one or two ideas that I know I want to do, which are Georgia on my Mind, Makin’ Whoopie, and Wonderful World (the Sam Cooke tune, but David Bromberg does an awesome blues-esque cover that I want to emulate).

Anyway, anyone have any suggestions?

I’m guessing Anarchy in the UK is out.

Cool topic, Eonwe! My list:

Bill and Can’t Help Lovin’ that Man from Showboat
Love for Sale (the Cole Porter version, not Bon Jovi
Someone to Watch Over Me
My Funny Valentine
Hmmm…can’t seem to think of anything upbeat just now.

Stormy Weather
New York State Of Mind
Midnight Train To Georgia
One For My Baby, And One More For The Road
Misty
Maybe This Time
You’re The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me
(all pretty mellow…)

You might lighten it up with:

Puttin’ On The Ritz
Singin’ In The Rain
Don’t Tell Mama
It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing
I Want To Be Happy
(Have fun and let us know what your final song roster was!)

if you don’t list ‘avalon’ by roxy music, you may just as well forget about any sort of musical career!

Checkout Line - Citizen King
Tropicalia - Beck
We Put the Spring in Springfield
Anything off of Brutal Youth by Costello

[/tounge out of cheek]

Likewise “Vilja-Lied” from The Merry Widow?
