Premieres tonight
I’ll have to wait a while to see the scenes they filmed in Belfast it seems, I wonder how the city will look.
I so can’t wait to see what happens. And just so I haven’t forgotten all of last season… Gemma is on the lam, right?
Yep, framed for shooting the Irish kid, Eddie, by Stahl. She did shoot Polly in self defense.
It took looking at the Wiki article to see what you’re referring to, as the IMDb pages don’t say anything about any special locations.
It looks like the whole season may be new ground.
For those who aren’t quite familiar with SAMCRO, check it out.
I’m pumped. I just went out and started my bike, and revved it up until people heard it in St. Charles County.
Just kidding.
But I am pumped.
ETA: 10 PM Eastern/9 PM Central
I swear I looked for an SOA thread before posting mine.
Been looking forward to this since last December.
Maybe there will be enough interest to have some single episode threads once things get cranking. Meanwhile we can cram it all in here. Looks like we were both sort of last minute with the alert(s), but it had pretty much slipped my mind after I set the DVR a week or so ago.
Okay, we’re off to the races!
Other than the chase from the marina, and judging by the clock (I thought it would be a standard 1-hour episode) I thought this was going to be a turgidly paced episode.
And then it goes out with a bang.
Are we supposed to have a good idea who did the drive-by?
Looks like we got to Belfast right out of the chute, Pushkin.
Since I had read nothing in the way of hype or setup, I had somehow figured Hal Holbrook’s role to be like the one he had in the Dirty Harry movie. Seems like they’re either sitting on a bad side of him for later or else they got him for an out-of-character thing.
I want it now! Bloddy Foxtel will delay it and then wonder why they don’t get a bigger audience as everyone will download it.
I thought it was a given that it was the Irish. SAMCRO and the IRA are going toe-to-toe this season.
Overall, I suppose it could have been the Mayans, or Zobelle/LOAN coming back around for another swing at the Sons…
The guy that Jax pulverized at the end looked Latino to me, so I was assuming it was the Mayans.
Damn, what an episode. I almost cried when Hale got hit. He annoyed me in the first season, but I had really come to respect and like him by the end.
Okay. Good to know. I’ll lean in your IRA direction, especially with the Belfast filming that Pushkin mentioned and wiki confirmed. Looking over the cast list at Sons of Anarchy (TV Series 2008–2014) - Full Cast & Crew - IMDb provides other clues!
The bad blood between Gemma, Tara and Stahl ought to keep the volume pretty high for a while, and I think the little heart-to-heart Clay shared with Jax at the coffin is a good chunk of why Jax vented his frustrations on that dude’s head.
Will Unser remain the LE in charge or does somebody else fill Hale’s shoes?
The previews of coming episodes indicate there won’t be an excessive amount of soul-searching and intellectualizing. Action! That’s the main appeal of the show to me. Action tempered with depth of character development.
Nowhere in this synopsis, nor in the full cast list for the episode, can I find reference to the Republican candidate for mayor(?) who comes to Hale asking for support. His face is very familiar but I can’t place where I’ve seen him before and it bugs me. In a small way he reminds me of Thomas Haden Church but I know it’s not THC. Help?
ETA: I had the same reaction to the few shots we got of the drive-by-tossed-to-the-curb guy, gallows fodder .
The guy that came to Hale for help is Jeff Kober, who a million years ago used to be on China Beach. He also played Hale’s brother.
My question about last night’s show is are we really supposed to believe the Feds wouldn’t have Gemma’s Dad’s house staked out too? I mean, c’mon. Even if they were estranged, somebody would be keeping an eye on him.
Great episode. I’m looking forward to the sparks that fly between Tara and Stahl when they go at it.

Jeff Koberit is, and I’m remembering him most from small roles in his credits list and the resemblance to Thomas Haden Church, I suppose. Now that I know his name I see that I overlooked him in the full cast list because that list makes it appear he was only in last season’s episodes and the picture is difficult to recognize! Thanks for the help.
Good point about the Feds and Hal Holbrook. I can’t imagine using an actor of his renown in such a simple role. Something just has to develop there. Won’t it be great for him (in a moment of clarity) to kill Stahl with a kitchen knife or maybe an iron or piece of pottery?
Not to put too fine a point on it, but I see the charcters in SOA as being similar to the ones in The Wire in that instead of just being toughs in leather that each of them has a backstory and a personality that grows on you.
I just saw this episode. I liked it, particularly the explosive ending.
One question about the show overall. Didn’t they suggest in an early episode that Clay killed Jax’s dad? Is this something the show is ever going to return to? Because the first season, they appeared to be setting up the conflict between Clay and Jax as the central story (i.e., “Hamlet on a Harley”). But they’ve since abandoned that idea.
Yeah that will be left for another series I expect, damn I want SoA down under now!

That was Hale’s brother, who tried to get Hale in line with the Aryans at the beginning of S2, because they’d clean up Charming [get rid of SAMCRO and the others].
Am I the only one who didn’t know the actor who plays Jax, is British?
I saw Nicholas Nickleby this weekend. You could have knocked me over with a feather.
