Sopranos: 3/26 (Open Spoilers)

Some great things I noted…

The song playing in the background in the last scene with Tony was “Over the Rainbow” Wizard of Oz rference about his dream?

The scene between Christopher and AJ seemed like an homage to teh Sony Michael talk in the Godfather. Specifically when Michael starts talking about killing McClusky. Sonny tussels Michaels hair and chides him for trying to be a tough guy, much in the same way Christopher handles AJ.

That crew is seriously screwed without Tony. The only guy that was smart enough and loyal enough can’t handle the pressure and everyone else is too wrapped up in getting there share that had Tony died, they’d be trying to take each other out.

I think Carmella had an epiphany of who she is and who these people really are with her talk with Dr Melfi. It was confirmed when Vito and Paulie handed over the cash. She saw the look of disapointment (Paulie can certainly be trusted to show how he feels can’t he) on their faces.

Poor Silvio. He’s a stand up guy, and smart enough to know that sometimes you have to lose a little for the business to thrive, but he can’t handle the pressure. Question is will Tony be pissed at him for failing or will he appreciate what he’s got. Knowing Tony, it will be the former.

I have a feeling their will be quite a few body bags required for this season. So many things are being set up for a lot of shit to fly.

Og I missed this show. I mean where did I find drama/comedy of this caliber before??? Speaking of which, I wonder where the writers will go after the show ends (knock on wood).

Vito is driving me crazy, if I were in the show I’d wack him for pure annoyance factor. Paulie is my hero. I want a poster of Paulie buffing his fingernails to put on my wall. That’d be awesome. Or maybe at work to keep people from bothering me.

Great show. I about jumped out of my skin when Stevie B showed up, not from fear, just surprise. I never would have guessed he would have returned. I would have expected Puss or somebody I guess. Oh well.

So in the dream sequence, is he Finnerty?

I have had this same concern about the writers and crew and especially the producers and Chase himself. Surely HBO will retain their services in a new venture, perhaps not a mob spin-off but something with the mob-like tensions and grit. Imagining what universe that could be has probably been troubling the entire group in between those 13-hour days they’ve been spending getting the show in shape to air.

I don’t know the entire story of Vito, but it’s been fun to watch Joseph R. Gannascoli’s rise from “grocery customer” early on through the non-speaking parts to Ralph’s hitman to current contender to the throne. The little I have read of his outside life suggests that he and Steve Schirippa (Bobby) have similar interests in making it in showbiz on the back of their Sopranos connections. There’s no doubt his acting chops have improved and that his character has the authenticity factor going for it. My favorite scene of his is when he was pretending to be Tony on the other end of a phonecall with Ralph where he was describing the things he was seeing out the car window. “I see a squirrel and maybe a rabbit…” Whether he adlibbed that or it was written for him, it was funny stuff.

The fact that Vito’s role has expanded so much this season is a good omen (good in the sense of believable) that Vito’s demise will follow the path of Richie, Ralph, Tony B., and even Big Pussy. In other words, it will be “Ta ta, Vito” before the season break I suspect. Before the finale for sure.

What makes you think that?

He was shown very much alive in the previews for this coming Sunday. Could be misleading though.

I don’t know, I hope they have a good sense of when to move the plot along. I’ve had enough of catatonic Tony.

I think that what What The was saying was that even though Tony is alive, there’s no reason for the writers to stop with dream sequences. They’ve always used them extensively.

I finally got to see the episode tonight. IT was great. Silvio really made the Episode. AJ is definately going to get into the Biz.
Chris, Vito and even Paulie are all living on borrowed time.
I gotta believe Vito is dead before the season ends.

Jim

Paulie walks a fine line. I don’t think this episode showed him in any other light than what we (and Tony) know him to do.

I hear that in the next episode, Paulie…

is rocked by an Aunt’s deathbead confessoin (not sure what this is, could he be adopted?) and then just as you’re starting to feel some sympathy for Paulie, he does something completely dispicable that makes you wish he’d get whacked.

Bingo … not that I want to see more dreamy stuff!
