"sounds of hell" urban myth

Why is everyone ignoring the obvious truth? This “old Halloween Effects Album” came from the Pit of Hell ™ itself!

Indeed, we should all pee ourselves – with terror!

If the so called “proof” has been found to be a hoax, it ceases to be a proof.

What is the problem here?

As i said before i was NOT saying this story was true. Maybe my point would have been better made by asking “What if it wasn’t a hoax?”. Then what? I would predict there would be alot of scrambling going on to explain it away. That was simply my point.
For the record, no i am not a geocentrist but i know where you are going with it and i can tell you in my opinion its irrelevant. It’s simply what the viewer perceived not someone trying to lay a foundation for modern science.

If the “hellhole” wasn’t a hoax, you wouldn’t be able to get past the maurading herd of grad students. Any one of them would be willing to [insert outrageous act] for a chance to overturn geology and be first in line for the Nobel Prize.

Then you have a lot of scientists, suddenly confronted with potentially falsifiable evidence of Hell, doing their damnedest to falsify it. That’s how science works: people try and try to falsify theories, and if a theory stands up to all tests, then it’s accepted as the best current explanation for the data.

So you have scientists repeating the experiments, lowering their own microphones into the Hellmouth. You have scientists taking temperature readings, gas readings, every other reading they can think of. You have scientists digging their own wells. You have scientists picking apart the recordings. You have scientists trying to design heat-resistant cameras that can record visual images of what they find down the well. Hell, at that point, you probably have scientists breaking out the orgone readers.

That’s how science works. When you suspect that scientists would be scrambling for alternate explanations, you’re right: if scientists can show that the “screams of the damned” are exactly the noises you’d expect from the rapid cooling of magma when exposed to air (to pull an example out of my butt), and if scientists can duplicate those noises exactly under laboratory conditions, then they’ll probably settle on that as an explanation: they’ve got a theory now that explains all the known facts about the well, and they could explain all the known facts without bringing in a new entity (that is, they could explain everything through physics, without hypothesizing about Hell and damned souls etc.) That’s science working at its best.

But when your first attempt to falsify something shows that it’s clearly false, you don’t need to dig much farther.

Daniel

Aren’t hallucinations “experienced?”

Let me reply using someone elses statement.

WRENCHEAD understand how science works, peer review, duplication of resutls, etc… Cold fusion failed for just this reason. There was much ridicule for Pons and Fleishmann’s work. A physics prof friend of mine stated that Cold Fusion demonstrated quite clearly the failing of the American physical sciences education curriculum.

Does the Bible say that hell is deep within the earth?

I don’t know for a fact its exact location but it is refered to as down by earthlings in these passages and others. So i do not dismiss the possibility.

And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
Matt 11:23

In hell,[ 16:23 Greek Hades] where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.
Luke 16:23

It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?
Job 11:8

Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.
Ps 55:15

Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit
Is.14:15

How do you know they weren’t trying to lay a foundation for modern science?

Just out of curiosity, where do you think I’m going with it?

Usually when asked the geocentrist question the lost day theory is close behind. My apologies if this wasnt your intent.

That had never occurred to me.

Now will you please answer my question?

Sorry, I assumed that the erudite denizens of this board listened obsessively to the Firesign Theatre.

Hell is actually a landfill outside of Jerusalem, in the vale of Gehenna.

Welcome to Hell.
The following materials are prohibited for disposal:
Used oil, paint, aerosol cans, lumber, concrete, any hazardous material, tires, Christmas trees, and used condoms.
Now go to Hell.

… Damn, I guess it would still be a landfill. Is that the oldest one still in operation?

Thanks, Mystic. I learned something, and got a heck of a laugh besides.

… On second or third thought, is it still a landfill? Mystic’s url is rather… witnessing. It would be highly entertaining if it were.
