Sounds you love.

Yes, a truly potent, virile sound. Man, it breaks me up every time I hear it.

But I also like lightsabers dueling, the super-ominous sound of a shotgun being cocked, train horns in the distance, the doppler-effect sound of a railroad crossing bell heard from within the train, and most classic cartoon sound effects.

THAT’S the one!! Makes me crack up everytime. I think they deserved the $100,000 grand prize for all the laughs they us.

Girls laughing (makes me melt!)

Any purr, mew, meep, chirp, maow, meow, and squeak from cats and kittens (I’m a sucker for talkative cats)

Twangy guitar played through a reverb-heavy amp, particularly that surf/rockabilly/spy movie soundtrack sound.

Saxophones playing just about anything (that’s why I play one)

Muted trumpet playing in a minor key

Hammond B-3 organ (pure joy, whether it’s in a jazz, soul, or gospel context)

Girls singing (especially Ella Fitzgerald, Patsy Cline, Neko Case, or Jenny Lewis, but almost any female voice singing sounds lovely)

Afternoon rainstorms, while I’m inside near a window

The sound of clinking silverware and glasses and eating, accompanied by the lack of talking, when you’ve gotten friends together to share a good meal

Girls moaning (in the good way)

I can’t believe I didn’t mention… BAGPIPES!

Best sound on earth!

In ‘Mull of Kintyre’ (sp?) when the bagpipes start, that sends a profound chill down my spine!
And ditto on Hypno-Toad.

That “sigh” noise when you just get comfortable in bed after a long day.

cats purring

my mom’s voice (i’d give anything to hear it again)

absolute, total silence

the sound of breathing when you’re kissing and getting turned on

I forgot to mention the sound the robots made on the old Transformers cartoon when they’d transform into vehicles, that “chk-chk-chk” sound. I can’t pick up one of the old toys without making that sound!

Some of the older Nintendo and Super Nintendo games have really distinct sounds that make me smile, like the Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda games.

Food cooking, especially meat on a barbecue grill.

My very favorite sound is a baby sucking on the bottle (or breast), making that delicious little “mnh,” “mnh,” sound, half-moan, half-swallow. I love the way the little line between their eyes smoothes out, and their eyes half close with bliss, too. Can’t imagine being that happy any more! :stuck_out_tongue:

I also love these sounds:

rain hitting the roof
rumble of distant thunder
toddlers belly-laughing
my parents’ voices
my eldest daughter saying “Mama!” when she’s excited
my youngest saying, “I love you, Mama”
the sound of wind sighing through the Mouse’s Tank trail in the Valley of Fire
voices with Deep South drawls, especially Mississippi drawls
real British accents
the pop of bubble wrap
Mrs. Furthur

Oh, and one more I forgot:

when we’re fixing to have a tornado, the wind chimes outside the back door start with a light ching, ching… then a little faster… a little faster. Yummy spooky thrill.

Mrs. Furthur

The sound of an American AC switching station. That buzz is what heaven sounds like.

The sound of a high powered rifle shot in the distance on a cold morning.

The plop of a water drop falling into a still pool.

The hum of a heavily loaded twin turbo prop plane.

In case you want to see the episode that’s from, it’s a game of sound effects in which two women from the audience have to supply sounds for Ryan and Colin (who try to cue the women for sounds). They mention a duck and the women makes a duck sound. Then Ryan cues an elephant and the woman makes the same duck sound. I’ve seen it 2 or 3 times and it still cracks me up. Drew laughs all during the sketch and for some time afterwards.

Baby’s Laughter

Sound of swimming underwater

Thunderstorm

Rain pattering on the concrete

A thunderous fart

A guttural belch.

What? It’s funny, and I love the sound of laughter. Even my own.

The sizzling sound food makes when it hits a hot cast iron skillet.

Leaves in the trees rustling overhead while sleeping in a tent.

The crunch sound day old snow makes when walking in it.

The soft popping sound a cork makes when pulled out of a wine bottle.

The clicking of some of my high heels on tile floors.

The punch sound a stapler makes.

The ocean, waves roaring and crashing.

My sons cracking up at something silly.

Sonic Booms.

psycat90, can I save this one for the misplaced modifier thread? It’s absolutely delicious!

Btw, the clear winner here seems to be (quoting the man who gave me my handle):

How grim our lives would be
if not for children’s laughter –
like scary old fairy tales
with no happily-ever-after.

Oh, excellent, I’ve always wondered what episode it was from.

I wonder if Netflix has Whose Line eps on DVD? ::runs off to check::

  1. My bass… Especially the lowest E.

It’s got this sort of nice, low hum that’s really warm and fat. I can’t really explain it.

  1. The eight recurring notes in the song “Money”.

I guess you can tell I like the bass, eh?

The THX sound.
Bagpipes!
My toddler cousin laughing.
The sound effects from pretty much any old Shareware game.
I forget who mentioned old book pages flipping, but ditto that. Flpflpflpflpflph…
Altos singing in harmony.
The Beatles singing in harmony.
The “click” sound effect in Windows when you minimize/maximize windows.
Klezmorim rocking out.

= perfect. I can hear it now.

A Muzzerrain(sic) calling to prayer in the morning - exotic (not sure I’d feel that way for long tho)
Bowling pins / Pool balls after a sweet strike/pot
The screech of a buzzard and the hoot of an owl - freedom
Sound of the surf rolling in
And of course rain on the window pane

All glory to the Hypnotoad.

I love a sound I just created… I.e. the multiple dull cracky sound a stiff human neck makes when you jerk it to free up tension. I love the resulting feeling too.

The rattle of a diesel motor on a cold winter morning.
