Sounds you love.

When my gas tank is 9/10 empty and I’m parked at the gas pump and I open the gas cap and this light exhale from the tank breathes out, starting with a low hiss and ending soon after with a final faint gasp.

That is my favorite sound in the whole world.

That instantly reminds me of the family fiat filling the whole terraced street I grew up on with opaque smoke every single morning. We as kids were first introduced to that fiat in our garage, where I mistook it for a cool hip ford escort. The pride was short-lived. How sad it is to know that the family car is an embarrasment at such a young age.

The purr of a sleeping kitty cat.

The primeval yawp of a bass saxophone.

The NBC chimes on old radio air shots, back when they were played on some preposterous automatic music box that rendered them ever so slightly out of tune.

A freight train passing through at 2:00 in the morning 8 blocks away from the house I grew up in.

Carol Costello teasing her weatherman early mornings on CNN.

The barely perceptible thunk issuing once a minute from the old-fashioned synchronized schoolroom clocks.

The sound a spoon makes when you are stirring something in a plastic blender.

Loons

a sigh of contentment

cats purring
dogs, and that contented groan/grunt they make when they are happy and about to fall asleep
the chatter my chickens make when they “talk” to me
distant thunder
the far away whistle of a train at night
the wind in the pines
babies laughing

The distant sound of the train in the morning

Waves lapping at the shore

Rain on the roof

Church bells chiming

A symphony tuning itself before it begins

My old children’s choir singing

Laughter

When played by someone who knows how to play …

Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon or *Wish You Were Here * – either with headphones or turned up so high it makes the windows rattle.

The opening bass and guitar rift on White Rabbit – I could “Name That Tune” just hearing the first tenth of the first note. (Okay, the rest of the song works, too!)

My wife’s voice when she says “I Love You” in that way that lets me know she really means it …

I’ll take reality for $500, Alex

The stillness when something wakes you up, but you don’t yet know what – and the house is quiet, and your wife is sleeping – and you see the clock and you realize… you woke up because the train did not go by.

A gentle summer breeze right after sunset.
My dog sighing right before she falls asleep.
The roaring of a waterfall/crashing ocean waves.
Leaves rustling.
City traffic (I am strange.)
The pitter-patter of summer rain against my window.

I just looked over this list and realized what a nature freak I am. :dubious:

I love the sound of sneakers squeaking on the gym floor during a basketball game

The RRRIIIPPP sound a basketball makes when swishing thru the net

The quiet sound that comes when snow is blanketing the city

The sound of my husband snoring (well, for about 4 or 5 snores, then I have to poke him) For some reason it makes me smile to hear him snore…
