South Park 05/03/2006 “TssT”

Hurray, SP was funny again.

He browbeats the first Nanny into surrender. The super Nanny is reduced to complete insanity.
Nice cameo by Skexis, from the Henson forgotten classic The Dark Crystal

Cartman: Come on Jimmy. We’re best friends!
Jimmy: What’s my last name?
Cartman (after pause): God damnit.

Great tribute to Altered States and the Omen with Cartman’s transformation and return
The Argument looked like a visualization of Smeagol & Gollum arguing.

Jim

To me this is probably the best episode ever. This is up there with that famous episode of Batman: TAS that explained Harley Quinn’s backstory. I could be biased, though, because the subject matter hit so close to home…

It was a good episode but I don’t get the pop culture references to Cartman’s transformation since I’ve never seen the dark crystal or altered states.

I’ll try to help out:
Nanny Skexis was the last Nanny shown in the Nanny 911 Opening.
Skexis was one of the evil creatures in Dark Crystal.
Cartman’s debating killing his Mom was a take off on Smeagol/Gollum arguing with himself over killing Frodo Baggins. (Lord of the Rings)
As Cartman left his Mom’s room and was rapidly changing shapes, looks, colors it was reminiscent of scenes from Altered States.

pizzabrat: I think I am a little frightened of you if that episode “hit so close to home…”

Jim

Great episode. I was disappointed in the last few weeks, but this looks like a return to form for the time being. I’d rank it right up there with some of my favorites.

Cartman’s reaction to being leashed up and taken on a walk was priceless. I loved the way he was whining and carrying on.

Cartman’s mom “drinking tea” (wink wink) and playing her “favorite game” with Dog Whisperer was cute too.

Unless they really were drinking tea and playing games. Sometimes I have a dirty mind.

I watched it again at midnight, I liked the “Don’t Bogart my Xbox” line and the TV set was Labels Fony in the “Sony” Font.

I missed the first half, but judging from what I saw, at least it didn’t suck for a change.

My favorite bits were the two times when Cartman rolled over on his back in a “submissive pose” and stopped moving. It was so much like a dog that was finally recognizing the pack leader, it slayed me.

I didn’t see the ending, only up to the part where Cartman’s mom is finally breaking down and offering to take him to buy toys if he accompanies her to Madam Butterfly. How did it finally ended?

And I missed the beginning too, I only saw from when the dog trainer arrived on.

Ending: THe music from the Omen plays as Cartman reverts to his normal evil self.
Beginning: The Nanny bits I briefly described above.

You should try to catch one of the replays. It was a funny episode.

Now that was actually funny. There was some serious suck in the last few eps but this was just perfect in tone.

I laughed out loud more then a few times.

It just showed Cartman bargaining with his mom for more toys. Then she hugged him and they showed a close up of Cartman’s face with the Omen music playing in the background.

It showed Cartman breaking down the nannies from “Nanny 911” and “Supernanny.” The first one he reduced to sobbing, the 2nd one he sent to an insane asylum. That’s when Cartman’s mom called the Dog Whisperer (who was incredibly efficient).

The visual, with the glowing head stretching away from the real head, is taken from Contact (remember Jodie Foster in the dimensional pod?).

I think you’re right, but the argument was very similar to Gollum/Smeagol.
We know at least one of them is a fan. (Trey and/or Matt)
I forgot about that scene in Contact, good catch.

Jim

That was a good one. I particulary loved the whole walking cartman on a leash.

Though the reversion to evil at the end was creepy, and I actually dreamt I was trying to kill the little bastard, but every time I’d do so he’d reform like the T-1000.

This episode reminds me of the Attention Deficit episode. Remember that guy who cures it by being strict with the children?

This is one of the best seasons ever. Half the shows this season are mediocre, but the other half are brilliant. Return of Chef, Cartoon wars & TssT were all great. The hybrid one was ok and the others weren’t that good.

Good episode. Love the Dark Crystal/LOTR/Contact/Omen references. Cartman truly is evil – even Ceasar the Dog Whisperer couldn’t redeam him in the end.

Mahaloth: I was reminded of the Ritalin episode too. Matt and Trey certainly seem to have strong opinions about proper childcare considering they have no children of their own.

What does “TssT” stand for?

(I also caught only the last few minutes.)
