Totally unexpected. Quite a take off on a familiar news story. It wasn’t that funny, except for cartman, but actually kindof gross, considering Ike’s age.
I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’m being vague.
Not the best ep, not the worst.
Oh, I loved it. I liked how Cartman’s bitch was all tits, too.
Solid episode. I bet it’ll be better with more viewings.
Better than last weeks. Ike’s glare busts me up.
I couldn’t quite make out everything Ike says, but his fakeout at the end was pretty funny, as were Beth’s boobs, as was “Niiiiice.”
I wonder what the real life Dog thinks of how he and his folks were depicted?
I think he’s probably got bigger worries right now than being made fun of in a cartoon. . .
again, I rate it a solid “meh”
IMnsHO Matt and Trey have lost what made SP so innovative in the beginning - lately they’re just going for the grossout or to see how many groups of people they can offend in one episode.
And this is the first time they pushed one of my buttons (usually, if i don’t like an ep, it’s just a mild “eh”) The reaction of the adult males when they learned the pedophile was a young pretty female and not a dirty old man mildly pissed me off (not to the point of protesting, but I am not happy) This, however, was offset by the whole Cartman/Dawg thing which I thought was hilarious (“me? ath-or-i-tah?”) so it averages out to a “meh”
10/10. Hit it out of the park. I’ve made those same jokes when those Florida teachers were caught having affairs.
You’re dead to me.
Brah! Go with Christ.
I’ve been catching South Park after The Colbert Report more often than usual this season, and last night’s episode had me saying aloud to my empty house “I forgot how much I like this show!” – as did the recent WoW episode.
It’s satire.
That made me laugh out loud … and I think it’s the first thing Ike said that I understood.
That was the point. News coverage, at least, treats the Mary Kay Letoureaus and Debra LaFaves very differently than it treats the Mark Foleys and the John Mark Karrs. Reactions such as “niiice” and “where were these teachers when I was a kid?” are hilarious because they are so common (in all senses of the word).
And the “Mel Gibson defense?” Brilliant! Just to tally, alcohol “abuse” causes:
-
Racist and sexist rants from drinkers who don’t actually hold those opinions (Mel Gibson);
-
Rampant corruption, including accepting bribes to introduce legislation (Bob Ney);
-
Sexual obsession with minors (Mark Foley);
-
“…all of life’s problems.” But it also solves them (Homer Simpson).
I thought the episode was very Niiiice.
My crim law prof once said, “if an adult man has sex with a 14 year old girl, we call him a rapist. If a 14 year old boy has sex with an adult woman…we call him lucky!”
The alcohol abuse thing floored me. I saw it coming about a second before she said it which made me laugh even harder for some reason.
Best part?
(paraphrased)
Counselor: Where you sexually abused as a child?
Teacher: No. But my uncle did make me and my sister take showers together while he took pictures.
(Long pause. Understanding look on counselor’s face)
Counselor: Niiiiccccce!
I’m wondering why they didn’t call it the Mark Foley excuse: alcohol + sex with minors was more recently him than Gibson.
and that’s why I’m not happy. I’m all for satire and making fun of idiots like the above metioned, it’s the glaring inequities, no matter how they are presented, no matter how “real life” they are, that piss me off
But that won’t stop me from watching the rest of the season
You were a little off there, but not too much.
Verbatim:
Counselor: “Was there ever a history of sexual abuse in your family?”
Teacher: “No, but my uncle used to ask me and me and my twin sister to kiss, and he’d take pictures”
Counselor: “Niiiiccce.”
Overall, I’d consider this episode a mediocre South Park outing, but certainly better than the first two episodes (and yes, that IS damning with faint praise).
:slap:
Maybe I should learn the definition of “verbatim.” The Teacher line should, of course, read, “No, but my uncle used to ask me and my twin sister to kiss, and he’d take pictures.”
I could also learn to use vB code, too, I guess. Try to correct somebody once and end up correcting yourself twice. Geez.
Niiiicce!
Oh, I forgot.
Dawg’s Crew.
Leeroy- Dawg’s Assistant
(?)- Dawg’s Driver
Beth- Dawg’s Bitch
Kyle- Jew
I was able to make out, “Ike did a no-no!”
Who were they parodying?
(is that a word?)
:smack: Heh, some part of my brain, between my eyes seeing it and my conscious understanding it, kept correcting the sentence in the first post. I had to read both versions, word for word, several times over before I caught the error.
