I was just about to go to bed and I decided to check the summary for South Park on my TiVo. Hmmm, Cartman get’s Torettes. The hell with it, I can stay up another half hour.
So, how’d this get by the censors? Really, I mean, there isn’t even that much swearing on FX.
Because it’s on a cable channel, shows will only say what they think the advertisers will let them say. South Park’s advertisers let them say whatever, so they’ll say whatever.
Not only that, but those are the words they have been saying on South Park over the years. All the obscenity was just packed into this episode.
Great start to the second half of the season, by the way.
Except for the odd utterance every once in a while, though, they’ve bleeped “shit” in every episode since the one where they said it uncensored 160-something times. I don’t get that.
I did enjoy last night’s episode, though. It’s always good when they roll out one of the increasingly rare non-political South Parks.
I liked it, but was disappointed they didn’t give Chris Hansen the ass reaming he deserves- they really didn’t slam him at all, there was sort of a grudging respect it seemed- if anyone deserves the John Edwards treatment, its him. Butters peeing at the urinal with his pants pulled down to his ankles was great.
Because “shit” is an actual curse word in the South Park world. I can’t remember what exactly happened, but some bad shit got summoned in one episode. Perhaps it was the 160-something times “shit” episode. I was waiting for something horrible to happen because people were saying unbleeped "shit"s.
I believe Matt Stone and Trey Parker actually do the bleeping for South Park. They assert the episodes are funnier that way, that the viewer can use his imagination as to what was actually said. Comedy Central has no problem with profanity. They have shown “South Park: BL&U” uncensored and have shown other movies uncensored in the wee hours. They’ll also show various comedy specials uncensored after about midnight or 1:00 a.m.
