Until last week, I hadn’t watched any episodes of South Park more recent than the 9th season (since those are the ones I have at home, and I don’t watch tv). Well, I’ve been watching the newer stuff on the southparkstudios website, and holy shit!
In particular, I was struck by the tooth decay episode of the 15th season, with Mr. Mackey’s constant "WHAT the FUCK!"s. It was just too much profanity. As they pointed out in the older “Shit Hits the Fan” episode, profanity loses its impact when it’s used constantly. It’s not something that’s going to make me stop watching the show, of course, but I don’t care for the newer episodes nearly as much as the older episodes, and this is one of the big reasons why. It’s just not as funny when they’re going fuck this and fuck that in every other sentence. Everyone on the show just seems SO ANGRY ALL THE TIME FUCK YEAH LET’S YELL ABOUT IT OMG WE’RE SO MAD!!!
I use profanity all the fucking time, so it’s not an issue of being offended–I’m not. But I still think the show was way better, and more effectively expressive, with less profanity. feh!
I’ve been watching it online (legally), and they don’t bleep any of the newer episodes. Do they also air unbleeped on Comedy Central?
As far as I can remember, there’s always been a lot of language on South Park. It may have increased lately, but that’s not surprising at all. I used to be a fan of the show, merely because it was such a wonderful comentary on the stuff that really goes down in real life (they just drug it out and amplified it is all). However, that one they did recently about the iphone thing and the app and all that, disgusted me with the whole show altogether. I no longer care for it in the least. I realize that’s not the first time something like that has been done, there was some movie I think they were spoofing, but I, for one, did not want to ever watch anything like that, but they showed it to me anyway…those bastards, they killed…never mind, fuck Kenny. I think SNL did there own spoof of it, but at least they had the decency to make it short and unless you got the reference then you’d have no clue what they were doing. now when I see South Park coming on I give them the finger and change the channel…before they ever have a chance to show me something like that again, I’m still trying to get that out of my head, and believe me when I say that I have an extremely strong stomach and can take anything…at least I thought I did, SP proved me wrong though. I don’t give a fuck about the language :D, it’s the other stuff that gets me (that episode being the only case I take issue with…enough to swear off the whole show, literally :D)
Parker and Stone (with the exception of episode #201) get to make their own decisions on what to bleep. It’s not forced on them by Comedy Central. The online episodes have been completely uncensored for some time now, but they mostly still edit the episodes for airing on Comedy Central. I have noticed this season several times that the word “shit” has been left unbleeped, even on the episodes airing at 10 P.M. But the word is also said on many other shows now, such as “Men of a Certain Age,” “The Glades,” and “Memphis Blues” such that South Park is no longer unique.
It’s the name of a song sung by the characters Terrence and Phillip in the movie “South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut.” I doubt Meerijeek intended any real insult.
The human centipad episode? Well, it had to be done… It broke the taboo of apple being wonderful to some people and parodied a completely disgusting film which exists (and doesn’t sound much like you’d watch it). Sounds like typical South Park fare, and the fact that Human Centipede does exist as a film means its up for parody. SP didn’t invent that partiicular concept…
TV in general does seem to be letting more cuss words through.
Go watch Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares over on BBC America, and you’ll get all the "shit"s that were bleeped on the Fox versions. They do still bleep the F word. (Not to be confused with his The F Word.)
I’ve never seen a whole episode of South Park in my life, and even I got the reference. I wouldn’t have been even slightly offended if it had been directed at me, any more than if someone had said “I fart in your general direction” in a Monty Python thread. The warning was unnecessary.
