South Park 3/22/06

They weren’t really turning on him. Remember the, “Don’t blame Chef, blame the fruity little cult?” I think they were saying that they really feel bad that Isaac left them and that they feel Scientology is fucked up and they wish he’d quit.
Oh, and did anyone else think that the stripper bore a resemblance to Star Jones?

Great episode! I definitely didn’t see that ending coming.

I chuckled at the fact that they took Chef to a psychiatrist (and that the psychiatrist was helpful!) given the…er…Super Adventurers’ Club’s hatred for such things.

I wonder if Tom Cruise is going to try to pull this episode as well. You know the scientologists are gonna be pissed, particulary since they can’t sue.

I also wonder if Darth Chef will be back, and if he’ll tackle…professor chaos!

Finally, did anyone else notice the picture of Lucy(from Peanuts) and her stand in the shrinks waiting room?

I noticed that among the real poster photos on the psychiatrist’s wall, there was a (The Doctor is in) Lucy from Peanuts cartoon, done in South Park’s style.

A boy can dream.

Curse you HPL!

Why do I feel so goddamn guilty for watching this show? Better yet, why do I keep tuning in?

Anyway, the obvious bad dubbing of Chef’s voice was hilarious. “I’m gonna make love to you – children.”

I have a feeling that Darth Chef was just a gag and the character won’t be returning, although it would be kinda cool. I’m guessing Chef is gone for good.

I think it’s up to Scientology whether or not this turns into an outright war. If they react badly to this episode, then I wouldn’t be surprised if Matt and Trey take it to the next level. But the episode never directly references Scientology, and I’m guessing the church will elect to ignore the obvious symbolism and let the controversy fizzle and die for now.

Of course the show has basically equated scientologists with brain-washed pedophiles, so anything’s possible.

Oh, no. Because that would be the reasonable and mature thing to do.

and btw, what season long fight with Mel Gibson? It was one episode. (wasn’t it?)

I don’t use this word in its current usage, because I hate to see a really good word diminished (see Eddie Izzard’s rant, but…
That was awesome! And a little touching, given that they explained that they didn’t blame Issac at all.

Hell of a start to the season!

A question: could South Park have kept Chef’s character indefinitely by resplicing clips of Isaac Hayes voice, or would that violate the typical contract voice actors work under?

The credits went by too fast for me to read, but if that wasn’t Eric Idle doing the voice of the chief explorer, it was a dead-on impression.

it was VERY noticable in one episode. that entire season, eric had mel gibson posters in his room and kept egging kyle on because he was a jew and had never seen the passion.

well, if this is the first shot across the bow for this season, it may shape up to be one hell of a season.

I didn’t think this episode was funny at all. I do not mean this as an insult. I think that was one of the saddest half hours I have ever seen.

In all the silliness, there was so much pain. I think Hayes’s departure really hurt Matt and Trey.

You could even hear it in Stan and Kyle’s voices.

This whole episode made me sad.

Holy cow. What a great ep. Good writting, funny, and got their point across perfectly. I wish they could get an emmy for this one. Loved it.

It wasn’t just for leaving. Are you aware of the circumstances surrounding Hayes’ departure, and his own comments about it?

Here’s some information about Isaac Hayes quitting and the surrounding controversy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Hayes#South_Park.2FScientology_controversy

For what’s it’s worth, I agree with you. One of the many reasons why I think Scientology is reprehensible is the position it takes in encouraging its members to separate themselves from friends and family members who are non-Scientologists. It’s a freaking cult, people.

I’m not a regular viewer but based on all these comments this is one I’ve gotta see. Is there a site that lists times when this particular episode will be rebroadcast?

Usually, Comedy Central rebroadcasts the new South Park episode on Thursday night, at the same time. Check your local listings.
