South Park 3/30

They summed up my take on the Schiavo case exactly: Cartman/Schiavo was “right for the wrong reasons” while Stan & Kyle/the Schindlers were “wrong for the right reasons”. While I’m still pissed over the glib and wa-a-a-a-a-ay overly simplified comments in the gender reassignment episode, the brilliance of this episode can’t be denied.

Isn’t it odd that the most cogent and intelligent commentary on current events seems to be from Comedy Central? And I wonder if this week’s episode will concern the Pope’s death (and his trip to hell since, as a gentile/non-Mormon, he can’t go to heaven).

Well, except the last three episodes were pretty frakkin’ bad, don’t forget. Still, I’ll tolerate a ratio of three mediocre installments for one fantabulous episode like this one.

I loved how they reversed the whole “God’s will” thing. Pro-tubers saying, “It’s God’s will that she live!” when it’s obvious that God’s will is whatever happens if humans stop interfering. Heh. You’d think somebody would have pointed that out by now; amazing that we have to have this silly foul-mouthed cartoon to remind us of the obvious.

Just two observations:

  1. Anyone else wonder how Kenny could afford a PSP?

  2. On later viewings, I felt they missed a golden oppurunity to have Kenny met at the gates of Heaven by several other Kenny’s(we know that at least one, the one from the movie, went to Heaven). It would have been really amusing if he had been greated by 100 kenny’s there.

I wondered about Kenny’s finances as well. My thought was they should have had Cartman ask him about it in his ranting voice, Kenny would then do some five-second muffled explanation. Cartman would then give some bland response and move on down the line. I think it would have been in the spirit of the show to acknowledge the question without bothering to answer it.

I didn’t forget. I just don’t agree with you

The Wing episode wasn’t that great but other than that I think the others were all great.

God’s still recruiting for the Heavenly Legions, I think, especially after the recent epic battle that was bigger than Lord of The Rings.

It would be cool if they showed him striding around, standing up straight, talking normally, etc. I also liked how the Mormons were still standing around cheerfully in their white shirts, without powers but still just happy to be there.

I loved this episode but I must say I do enjoy Satan more when he’s being a pussy.

Well, there is the thing about the Mormons in Heaven, with OSC being a devout Mormon and all…

I’d personally put it at: 1 disgusting and not really funny(Ms. Garrison), 1 quite funny(Hippies) and 1 “meh”(Wing). Or 1 bad, 1 decent and 1 good.

Well, see, this is what I was arguing for when I defended that episode and South Park’s humor in general in that thread wa-a-a-ay back.

I wonder if Scott_plaid still thinks they only pick on the liberals.

This one was a great episode! Keep them coming!
