South Park-3/9

Not to belabor the point, but my take on it was that they were using the dolphin and “black” things to underscore the point that you’re not a real woman after sex-change surgery, and as a way of saying, “Look, it’s ridiculous to mutilate your body because you ‘feel’ like something inside - you should live with what God gave you.” I felt like they were using the dolphin and black things as extreme examples in order to make the point. I didn’t get any sense at all of them saying that it’s o.k., and that it should be tolerated and respected. Miss Garrison was mercilessly ridiculed, not respected. And the doctor who performed all the surgeries was portrayed as an unethical, incompetent quack.

I don’t agree with them, but that’s my take on what they were trying to say.

I think they’re just as likely to come out on the right-wing or left-wing side of things, but I wouldn’t say they’re always middle-of-the-road. Just unpredictable.

When did they mention God in that episode? I must’ve missed it.

Garrison wasn’t respected because he was an asshole about it. I doubt they were trying to say that all TGs are assholes like him.

Hmmm…I thought it was pretty clear that that was my take on what they were saying, not a direct quote. AFAIK, they didn’t mention God in the episode, but they did mention something about people living with the bodies they have. The quotes indicated: here’s what they seemed to be saying. Sorry, but I couldn’t think of a better way to indicate that.

No, I don’t think they were trying to say that all TGs are assholes; I didn’t say that. I just said I never got any sense of them saying that they were in favor of TGism. It may be what people want for them to have said, but I don’t see as how they said that. My take on it was that they seemed pretty clearly against it.

I guess we will see in the upcoming episodes.
Will Mrs. Garrison remain Mrs. Garrison?
Gah…I hope not, she is way too annoying.
No woman in her right mind wants a period every month. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think they oppose the surgery but that’s not exactly the same as disagreeing with TG’s, just disagreeing over whether it requires a surgical solution.

Yeah, good point. I worded that poorly. Those guys are usually pretty progressive on issues of sexuality, so I agree that they’re probably not against the idea of cross-dressing per se. I meant to say they seem to be against the idea of having surgery.

I’m probably confusing my definitions. When you guys say “TG”, you aren’t necessarily referring to post-operative. My fault for assuming that.

I would like to point out that Mr/Mrs Garrison has never been portrayed as really being in his/her right mind.

I hope this doesn’t mean the end of Mr. Slave.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. My guess is that Garrison’s statement that she’s o.k. with being a woman isn’t as much an 11th hour concession that it’s o.k. to have surgery, but is more about being a device to try to inteject a little variety into the character, like when he lost Mr. Hat and had Mr. Stick. So if she goes back to being Mr. Garrison on the next episode, we’ll know I’m wrong.

I get the feeling that Matt and Trey, having run the gamut of interesting ideas and storylines, are now simply trying to see how fucked-up they can get before they start alienating their fanbase.

Running jokes about people losing control of their bowels at death, blood orgies, live-action footage from a sex change operation… what’s next?

Not that I won’t be watching with morbid fascination…

Frankly, I thought the entire episode was hilarious. Especially when Mrs. Garrison wanted an abortion and took offense over not being able to have one. Garrison was hilarious a non-PC gay guy and he was just as funny as a non-PC transgendered sex change person. Just had me rolling.

Of course when Kyle went to originally try out for the basketball team, that was pretty funny as well… especially when the ball was like as big as Kyle himself.

WHAT!!

Have you forgotten him already!!

I watched the old Towlie episode before this one. I liked Cartman’s The Outlaw Josey Wales reference when he found the tampon.

I thought it was a “Slingblade” reference.

I thought Garrison’s final line, “I’d rather be a woman who can’t have a period than a fag”, was one of the most shocking lines I’d heard on TV. (I wasn’t offended by it… it was more… sad.)

Is nothing sacred?

In The Outlaw Josey Wales Chief Dan George has a piece of hard red candy. ‘It’s not for eatin’ though, it’s just for lookin’ through.’

Well, there was a first for me in it. I’d never heard “queef” uttered on TV before. That was worth the price of admission.

I’m pretty sure they used ‘queef’ before. I think it was an episode where another gan of kids were making fun of them because they didn’t know the word.

I prefer the term “Isro”.

Okay, It’s been a while so I missed that.
