I didn’t really like this episode, partly because I don’t really like the characters of Towlie, Jimmy, or Timmy. I also have never seen Intervention, so I probably missed some things there. I did like the Nathan-Mimsey scenes, and also the Intervention captions.
Just watched it on SouthParkStudios. This episode was fucking garbage. I thought Pee was an OK episode. But this one was actually painful to sit through. I hate Towelie.
Well, after episode “200” and “201” it really seamed that “Crippled summer” was a bit dull and boring… (exept the shark-rape… very creative).
After the “Muhammad-bomb” they droped they maybe needed to cool off a bit.
We’ll see what’s comming next…
i kinda liked this episode. change of pace. fresh jokes compared to trotting out old favorites in 200/201. it wasn’t great, but not terrible as some people seem to think. i don’t think people are losing anything in not having watched “intervention” before. i mean, the show is pretty much what you would expect.
i also don’t understand why people who would otherwise like SP not like towelie. he’s a nothing-character? he’s a towel that likes to get high all the time?
Really blah episode. Found it hard to stay awake during it. Okay, so I got the references to many of the other characters. So what? Like with “200”, just making a shout out is not in itself funny.
So the odds of surviving a Black Mamba in a canoe is 546 to 1. Surprisingly good odds if you ask me.
I think the reason Towelie never “clicked” with me is that I’m just not a fan of the “stoner” and “hippie” subcultures, and let’s be honest here, Towelie is basically a “hippie”, and just like Cartman, I HATE hippies, thankfully, that’s the only thing Fatass and I agree on…
Nathan. In “Up the Down Steroid,” he talked Jimmy into taking 'roids to get an edge in the Special Olympics. (Nitpick: Jimmy would not qualify for the Special Olympics because he is not mentally retarded; Timmy might. Physically disabled persons have the Paralympics. And the Special Olympics events are non-competitive, everybody is recognized as a “winner” just for participating. Of course, SP is set in an alternate universe where you’ll find sharks and surfable waves in a Colorado lake. And where Jimmy can’t walk on his legs but can still surf on them.)
I love Intervention and for those who have never seen it SP portrayed Intervention to the letter including the black screen with the phrases like “Towelie now does 2000 cans a day.”
Overall I liked the episode. I loved the cartoon kids especially Pete the Puma and Elmer Fudd kids. Nathan and Mimsy were definitely based on Rocky and Mugsy because Rocky is always hitting Mugsy for screwing up the plans.
My favorite part was when they actually had the intervention and the kids got to read their letters and Cartmans one was all about how Kyle is a filthy jew and jews are evil.
Sylvester and Benny? Do you mean Benny the Ball from Top Cat’s gang? He and Sylvester never teamed. Benny was a Hanna-Barbera creation. Although I wouldn’t rule it out in the future since Hanna-Barbera is owned by Warner Brothers now.
I also don’t see that Nathan and Mimsy resembled Pinky and the Brain. The Brain was not homicidal. He only wanted to rule the world. He wouldn’t be concerned about a petty contest for its own sake, only if it furthered his global conquest plans. And he would want subjects to be under his command. He would not go around randomly killing. I say it definitely was a callback to Rocky and Muggsy.
No, not Benny the Ball. There were two or three Warner Brothers cartoons made with Sylvester and another character, a big dumb cat named Benny. This pairing was a parody of George and Lenny from Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. In fact, Benny keeps calling Sylvester ‘George’, leading to this classic exchange:
Sylvester: And stop calling me George! My name’s Sylvester!
Benny: But I can’t say Sylvester, George.
Very definitely, I believe Nathan and Mimsy are a reference to Rocky and Muggsy. But Rocky never seemed to suffer physically from anything stupid Muggsy did. That was more the sort of thing that happened in the Sylvester and Benny cartoons.
As for Pinky and the Brain, I’m only a little familiar with them, but the chemistry between Nathan and Mimsy seemed similar to theirs.
Thats the humor in it and what I liked about the episode. It was half realistic for an intervention/summer camp kind of show and half doesnt make any sense at all.
Half the time Towelei was an absurd SP character being Towelei and half the time he was behaving pretty much as any real person who needs an intervention and is on an intervention show.
