This is for a little girl who is a patient of mine and this is what she wants for Christmas. I just happen to have bought one for my then-SO last year and thought I could just go to the same place locally and get her one, but guess what? The guy went out of business, and I have been on the web almost all day and looking on E-bay, but the closest I have been able to come was a company up north which has some very elaborate and heavy ones which, from the description are not like the one she wants.
Some of the concrete statuary places I called knew exactly the one I wanted because it is a popular mold, but one lady told me she could sell hundreds of them, but for some reason the mold isn’t available anymore, and so I’m out of luck.
I thought with such a diverse group of folks, someone might know of a place maybe in Alabama or in the Carolinas where I might go and find one. I also placed an ad in our local newspaper which will come out Wednesday, and tomorrow I’ll check some of the local antique places, but I have a feeling that with them what cost only 25 bucks last year is certainly going to be “jacked up” this year. Still, I could probably save a bundle on shipping if I can find one locally.
This little one’s parents are unemployed, she’s only ten and without knowing it, I opened my big mouth thinking it would be simple to spend a few bucks and help make her Christmas. Little did I know the laws of supply and demand would bit me in the butt.
How big a statue are you talking about? Is it painted or not? There’s a concrete lawn ornament place not too far from me and I’d be glad to look for you - and should I find one, I’ll meet you halfway to deliver it if you want…
There are a few places around here that I can call tomorrow.
Are you on good terms with the Ex? Any chance she will give or sell you the Santa? If you are not on good terms, perhaps you should *acquire[/i[ it back
Seriously though, I’ll call a few local places tomorrow & let you know what I find out. What a sweet idea.
FCM: This one stands about 32 inches, and yes, it is painted, but even if I could find only an unpainted one, I would buy it and paint it myself! What a kind and generous offer! If it works out, I would happy to compensate you for your time and gas and buy lunch. Thank you!
Thanks, Slainte. The ex and I are on friendly terms, but I don’t feel comfortable asking for it back or even asking her to sell it to me. I am considering it as a last resort, though.
Thanks for your kind offer. I will look forward to seeing if you’rs successful!
How about this or this? The individual pages don’t say what the statues are made of, but the “About Us” page seems to indicate that almost all the statutes they sell are concrete.
Yeah, that’s the company I mentioned in the OP, JP, and those Santas aren’t like the one she wants. Thanks very much for the help, though. Thank you too, Yojimbo!
I am having no luck whatsoever. I called about 15 places (Lawn/Garden, Concrete Products, Statuary). I even tried a few Ceramics places to no avail. I’ll keep an eye out when I’m shopping. Apparently these are hard to come by. Sorry. I’ll keep checking though. If you find what you want, let us know.
Thanks for trying, Slainte! It was very kind of you to go through the trouble, and I will keep y’all posted and let you know if I have any success. Hugs.
Quasi
It was no trouble at all, Quasimodem. I’m sorry that I couldn’t turn up any results for you. Good Luck with your search.
PS - Even though you feel weird about it, I think if you explained to the Ex and offered to buy her another gift in exchange for it, she would probably do it. Most anyone with a heart wouldn’t turn away someone trying to help a sick child. If I were the Ex, I wouldn’t hesitate - she probably won’t either.
Shot in the dark: There’s a big pottery/concrete statue place at Tifton, Ga., (I think) Anyway, it’s somewhere on the highway that runs Tifton—>Sylvester—>Albany. “The Pottery Place” maybe? They’ve got acres of pots, statues, etc.

I live one town over from Mc.Minnville Tn. which is the nations nursery capital, and along the highway going into and out of town there are quite a few concrete places that sell things of that nature. If you could give me a better discription or a picture, I will look around for you. I go through there twice a week anyway. I’ll give you the same deal as FCM, meet me half way (acording to mapquest theres only 165.18 miles between us) and I would be more than happy to bring it to you.
Wow! Thanks very much, Kritter, I will ask the ex for exact measurements and will post here with a better description. Unfortunately, I don’t have a dig camera and neither does she, but I will give you as accurate description as I can.
The former SO and I work at the same hospital and we both work nights, so it will be after 7 pm when I re-post.
I sure do appreciate your offer, and mine to FCM I offer also to you: gas, time and lunch.
Okay, here’s a description of the concrete Santa Claus: 21 inches high. He stands with his black-gloved hands clasped in front of him. He is painted red with the furry parts of his suit in white, as is the beard of course, and his cap is tilted way to the right as you look at him. His eyes are very small and he has a very full beard.
