Floridian. In the south but not of the South.
I was born and raised in upstate New York, but I’ve lived in Northern Virginia for the past 7 years.
I live in Maryland. I am not Southern. I can’t even make decent biscuits without a recipe from my (very) Southern Aunt-in-law.
WV came into being because they didn’t want slavery, IIRC. I do not consider it to be a Southern state. Also, it’s gorgeous and I love driving through it.
Born and raised in Chicago. Been in Maryland for 11 years now, the past 8 of them within spitting distance of DC, a place John F Kennedy once described as being “…a city of Southern efficiency and Northern charm.” My wife is from Mississippi. Thats the south; I’m not so sure about this.

Born in Oklahoma. Now living in deep south Texas
Maryland and Delaware had slavery, and I don’t consider them to be Southern.
The 1st Arkansas Cavalry (CSA) fought the 1st Arkansas Cavalry (USA) in Fayettville, AR in, I believe 1862. Does that make us only part Southern?
I live in South Florida, which isn’t really southern culturally. Before that I lived in southeast Virginia (Virginia Beach).
I was the sixth generation to be born in Orlando and now live outside of Daytona Beach, Florida.
Born and still living in Arkansas, so I suppose I qualify. My spouse would qualify, too, since he’s a transplant. I’ll make him come answer for himself, though.
Born in Louisiana, and have live here for over three decades. The rest of the time (4 1/2 years) was spent in Mississippi.

WV: 4 months
NJ: 10 years
NC: 15 years
TN: 7 years and counting…
Still, those years in Jersey make me still feel like a transplanted Yankee.
I was born and now live in Oklahoma.
But, only the southeastern half of Oklahoma is really the south in culture. The northwestern half (where I live) is great plains in culture.

Born and raised in Houston, Tx. I lived in Austin for a while, I’ve lived overseas at various times, but I keep coming back.
