Southern USA Dopers: Stand and be counted, please

Born in Alabama. Have lived in New Orleans, Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi. In-laws are native New-Yorkers who have lived in the south for about 15 years now.

We currently live in Florida.

I desperately hope to be residing in Iceland within 10 years.

Toomer’s in Auburn? We just left Auburn last year. I loved the town, hated the culture.

Y’all are exactly right, Shelli, tho I think Mississippienne is living out of state, at the moment.

Kniz is also from Mississippi.

And yeah, put me down for biting EC too. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am getting a huge kick out of the “Born & raised in Northern Ontario, live in Florida” responses.

Georgia here.

Right. I’m guessing your address contained one the following words" Alpharetta, Marietta, Suwanee, Buford, Roswell, Dunwoody," etc. etc. A huge number of my friends are native Atlantans, and 99% were born and raised in the South. Atlanta is a very southern city.

Moved to South Carolina from Michigan last Thanksgiving, but my mom’s from Kentucky; I was half Southern already!

I’m in NC.

Nope - my address was Atlanta - I lived one block from Little 5 Points.

Hey, if you were born and raised in Ontario, you’d know that the Candian Dream[sup]TM[/sup] is to live in Florida!

Rather than continue to hijack Zeldar’s thread, I have begun another: What Makes Us Southern? Those of you who are interested are invited to comment.
Thanks!

Most certainly! Know thee of another Toomer’s Corner in Alabama? I helped roll Toomer’s four times this year, for the four National Championships:
Women’s Swimming and Diving
Men’s Swimming and Diving
Equestrian
Women’s Track and Field.

War Eagle!

War Damn Eagle!

I was born in Birmingham, but have been truly blessed by the Almighty in that I have had the opportunity… nay the privilege to have lived most of my life in that Mecca of higher learning… that utopian example of the zenith of human civilization… the center of the known universe… Verbena, Alabama.

dammit, i was so happy being cute that I forgot to say:

Toomer’s is one of the greatest spots in Alabama. Even though I hated the collegiate culture, I couldn’t help but grin when driving past a well-rolled Toomer’s Corner on a Monday morning (though I felt badly for the poor guys doing the clean-up with the pressure hoses…)

I miss Auburn intensely, even though I no longer have RV’s fucking up my Thursday night Astronomy labs nor trapping me in my student trailer park for hours on end during the weekend …

Um, are you being facetious? I don’t know WTF a Vebena is and I’ve live in Alabama more than anywhere else during my life!

Sorry if I offend you, it’s not my intent.

Born in West Virginia, but my folks were just passing through.

Bred and raised in north Georgia, and now live in Atlanta.

To a native Floridian, I’m a Damn Yankee, because I came down here to visit and stayed.

THE FLORIDAN

:Laughs::

IF I wanted to start a new thread, I’d ask:

If most residents of Florida refer to themselves as “Floridians,” then why is there a Media General publication called The FLORIDAN ??

Cause Jackson County (home of this “Floridan”) might as well be Alabama. They don’t know what they’re talking about.

The only Floridan we have is the aquifer. Those of us who live here are Floridians.

Native Louisianian. I know we’re actually allowed to leave, but I’ve somehow never gotten around to it.

Born and reared in New Orleans, moved to Baton Rouge for college in 1985 and stayed. (All my family made out okay during Katrina, thanks.)
