Let’s try something. “Do not feed the trolls” is a common phrase to all of you, I know. And we all do it now and again. Lord knows I do. Those trolls are usually entertaining in some way though.
But lets try an experiment. I call on all the members of the forum to not respond to either SpaceJackson or OJSimpson’s posts. Nothing. Not “off to Coventry” not “you’re an idiot” not “huh?” I’m talking nothing, here folks. Some people ignore them by default but I ask that we all not respond. Let’s see if we can make this experiment work. Just for the hell of it. Effective now.
Feel free to link people who do respond to this thread.
If by some chance they contribute something worthwhile, then we’ll call off the ban. This should be fun

I already posted the same request in those threads and reported them to the mod/administrator. I recieved a reply e-mail that their posting rights were cut off, but obviously it hasn’t taken effect yet. What a shame that intelligent adults can’t just ignore. I’ve said that so many times I’m blue in the face.

As a funny aside, I’ve seen these morons get 40 or 50 replies to a nonsense, obscene post. When I posted about the exact thing you said in your OP a while ago, I got exactly 6 responses. Most of them said “well, we like to take them to task, show 'em who’s boss”. Whatever. Get a life, you know?

Well, Zette, I think a lot of it has to do with the nature of the troll. The ones I tend to bait are just loud opinionated idiots. The PitBullDawg variety. It could be argued that they are contributing, even if it is just in an obnoxious way.
But the Jackson/Simpson morons start threads that literally have no meaning. I’ve also seen them post in GD topics saying inane and amazingly irrelevant shit like “basketball is fun.” Responding is 100% pointless. And without responses, these 900-words-or-less posts will sink like lead bricks. Especially in forums with high turnover like MPSIMS.

Agreed. This is a policy I’ve always followed. I frequently had the impression that a lot of posters enjoyed exchanging insults with the trolls (oooh, maybe I can do a better flame and use more profanities than anyone else and then get congratulated for it). Well maybe they’ve gotten tired of it – OJ (the username is repugnant too!) has posted some idiot replies in another thread and so far everyone’s ignored him.
I bet you valley girls would just abominate generators of “inane and amazingly irrelevant shit” like Edward Albee, Samuel Beckett, and Bill Griffith. However, if you gum smacking clique-meisters (oh gawd just ignore him, and maybe he’ll go away) even know these names I’ll be fucking floored.

I swore to myself that I would never acknowledge the existence of these people, but why start a thread saying “Ignore this person?” ?!?! That’s just “feeding the troll.”
I personally never (ok, with this one exception) acknowledge them at all. Not even a “boy, that post was stupid.” If you find something that clearly is cause for dismissal from the board, then e-mail a moderator, and quote the thread! But otherwise, don’t mention the person in any way.
