What do I think they have in common with SpaceJackson/OJSimpson/Melanoma? All I can say, Sam, is hang in there. You’re doing fine. You are right to defend yourself against any false accusations, but don’t let it get the best of you. I’ll side with Uncle Beer that Sam Vimes shouldn’t be blacklisted. Even though he doesn’t like me. He’s funny and seems very smart.
I found Space Jackson and OJ irritating, but as long as they were staying in MPSIMS they weren’t doing any damage. When they carried the gibberish into Great Debates, they earned their place in Coventry.
But this thread is turning into a bit of a witchhunt. I don’t think Vimes has anything to do with those two, except he sees some kind of parallels between them and other people he respects. I’ll admit that I don’t know who they are. And I humbly submit that if he wants to make a case for SJ and OJS, he might want to clue us ignorant folk in.
It’s a little tiresome that every new troll or irritation is accused of being an old enemy in disguise. Can’t we just deal with each new terror as it comes, rather than risk incriminating the innocent in our zeal?
Melanoma really ought to be at the very least reprimanded; that kind of hostility is not appropriate in this forum.

People ** should not ** decide to ignore the trolls named here because of this thread, and I don’t think Alphagene was trying to convince anyone to start hating them His point was that if you think their posts aren’t worth commenting on, not to comment on it.
Anyone who makes his judgement about another posts based on a flame or appeal to Coventry is doing that poster a grave injustice. Decisions should be made based on the quality of posts, not the other TMs views about them.

What are you talking about, RTA? Every day, new posters join who are completely terrific, people who are great additions to the board. It’s just that they don’t seem new for long at all because they slip into the rythm of the board. It only seems like most new posters are jerks because they’re the ones getting all the attention.
If we ever close the door to new members, I’ll take a hike.

RTA: I think you’re backwards associating.
Our trolls are recent registrants. This is only logical- it is extremely hard to be a troll for an extended period of time without stepping over a boundary and getting oneself banned. Ergo, trolls tend to have recent dates in registry, and few accumulated posts (under their current alias).
However, because A means B does not mean that B means A. New registrants do not automatically make trolls.
Besides, I’ve seen some long-established posters to this MB get all flaky-psycho as well (I call your attention to NanoByte; see the Pit for details).
