Spam numbers way up?

In the last few weeks my spam has gone up by a factor of around 10x. I use yahoo email and it is going into the spam bucket.

Anyone else notice this ? I check spam bucket since sometimes real mail ends up there .

AT&T mail. Looks about the same for me.

My yahoo and gmail accounts don’t seem to be getting any more spam than usual.

Yes, I’ve gone from 8 a day to 125+. Yahoo mail.

Not sure about spam in general, but phishing-attempt emails have tripled in the last month – but that might be just in my workplace, or perhaps more generally among higher-education accounts.

I noticed something quite the opposite this week. I get an average of 4 spam phone calls per weekday, and 1 or 2 on the weekends and even holidays. But from Monday to Wednesday this week, I got zero. According to my records, that hasn’t happened for at least 3 years, and I’ve logged every call.

For a while there I thought this might be a nice trend, but on Thursday, I got 2 junk calls, and on Friday, one. But the average for this week is way down. Is there a Hindu or Muslim holiday this week?

lately I get robocalls about my student loans which I never had.

most of my spam calls are wanting me to apply for jobs and for many of those the person barely speaks English. Not sure why they think a person with bad English is a good recruiter.

I have not received any calls like that. But my WAG is they may not be actual recruiters, but phishing efforts in disguise, trying to get personal information that can be exploited in some fashion, or to build a “mailing” (phone or email) list.

Example: There are fake “surveys” out there that aren’t really surveys (they ask benign questions like, “is your favorite color red or blue?”). They are just trying to justify calling you in the first place. If you answer at all, they consider that to be sufficient to “establish a business relationship” and don’t worry about the DNC list any more.

they are real recruiters. They are all Indian and some are even still in India. In my field about 90% of the people are foreign so I guess now that has bled over into the recruiting part of the field.

Hasn’t affected me, but an anime art site I visit every day has just been hit with spam accounts, prolly Indian, consisting of girls’ names with added end numbers, PMing members with ‘Hello Big Boy’ type messages.
