I tried a subscription to DeleteMe (https://joindeleteme.com) to help cut down on spam emails and texts, and since doing so the problem with texts has gotten noticeably worse.
I use a Google Voice number for any and all business transactions, so that keeps my personal cell number only to friends and family. But since subscribing to DeleteMe I’ve been getting a boat load of spam texts on my real number.
(sigh)
I’m venting!
I did search threads here, and spam in the thread title yields lots of hits. I searched DeleteMe but got no hits here.
I just assume that any product or service promoted by podcasters and Youtubers is actually a scam or really shitty cut-rate offering, e.g. BetterHelp, WeWork, Shopify, Rocket Money, Blue Apron, Casper, et cetera. A cursory review seems to show good correlation.
I get maybe one or two spam texts that make it through in a month. And very occasionally a robo call. But my Pixel has succeeded in mostly shielding me from all the bullshit.
To me it feels like a request to the criminal underworld to please not burglarize your house.
That’s just announcing to burglars that you have something worth stealing, and telling them where you are.
Here is an example of a “privacy company” whose CEO also founded multiple “people search” companies. Basically the shepherd breeding wolves to attack the sheep.
I don’t know if “DeleteMe” is nearly as bad, but I just generally don’t trust these outfits.
