I tried to find everyone associated with this spam and email them, and I got this reply from the web hosting service:

I got about 15 of the badrats related messages. It was on the account I use here and for sites likely to produce spam. I’m about to the maximum number of filters I can use, so I may just shut that one down and start over.

badrats wasn’t the problem - they turned off their bot as soon as they were made aware of what was happening, so you don’t need to worry about receiving stuff from them again. They ALSO have no idea how they ended up on the sobevideo mailing list; it’s just that their bot was sending autoresponses to every email they received via the listserv.

Don’t think so. My daughter recieved about 25 in her hotmail account and she isn’t on any Yahoo group.

I am and I recieved somewhere around 35.

We do both have accounts at Audiogalaxy and at Neopets though.

I suspect they harvested them from more than one place.

I’m thinking since Verizon absorbed Bellatlantic.net, maybe I am both ianna @ bellatlantic.net AND ianna @ verizon.net without knowing about it.

Anyhow, I send a long, detailed email to abuse@verizon.net. Since it looks like the problem has already been contained at its source, now I’m just hoping they clear up this whole “bellatlantic.net/verizon.net” thing with my email accounts.

I heard on the news this morning that some fool advertiser said, “Those who block pop-up ads on their internet account are violating an unwritten contract.”

First, fool: I did not enter into a freaking contract with you. I entered into, and pay for, a contract with my ISP. I like their service and thus I continue to patronize them.

Second, fool: I actually do click on banner ads on occasion if the site displaying such banners is to my liking and the advertised item on the banner is also to my liking.

Third, fool: I am the one who purchased my computer; therefore, I am the one who decides what gets displayed how on my terminal. When I go to a webpage, I fully expect the displayed page to be that particular webpage. I do not want, and certainly do not expect, your cruddy advertisement to appear either in place of, or immediately over, thus blocking, the webpage I told my computer I expect to be displayed.

Fourth, fool: QUIT USING UNETHICAL STUNTS TO SELL YOUR CRAP! Yes, I do keep a bit of a list of crap I shall never buy because I don’t like the advertising stunts pulled to try to sell them. And, yes, you fool, X-Cam is one of those items.
