I have never heard much of Spandau Ballet, but the song “Gold” is truly brilliant. I have heard it many times before but have not noticed how brilliant this song is until recently. I just saw the video and was amazed
Truly one of the greatest songs from the 1980’s. 
Ah, the Spandies. Despite the regrettable outfits and wedge cuts they were actually very good. If you like SB one of their earliest tracks (“To Cut A Long Story Short”) is brilliant. Very different sound than the smoothed-out R&B flavor of the “Gold” and “True” era.
“Chant No. 1 (I Don’t Need This Pressure On)” is another great early track of theirs.
Instinction is a great early track too.
Never thought I would admit this but Gold is a great song.
“these are my salad days slowing being eaten away”
Great chorus as well.
