Spartacus Vengeance,

The were accused of having too much sex last season. this season we have seen less sex, so we have been compensated with gore.

BTW was the ultra gory Sedellus scene even physically possible?

Yeah, this new episode was very gruesome - from the face-off moment to the many dismembered Roman soldiers to the crucified slaves … way more than usual. I still liked it a lot, though

Yea, the remains of the soldiers guarding Glabus’s wife looked more like they’d suffered an artillary barrage then been attacked by one guy with a sword. I think one corpse was completely dismembered.

And yea AK84 I don’t think the scene with the defaced German was really possible. Consider medievel headsman used to have trouble cutting through prisoners necks in a single blow, and that was through less bone and tissue, with a heavy axe, with a full two-handed overhand swing by a guy who specialized in that kind of thing.

Spartacus catches the German with a onehanded, underhand blow with a small iron sword.

I don’t think the producers are shooting for realism.

They always seem to slice through limbs (and now heads) like they’re butter. Seems the producers don’t know anything about bones.

A good sword from the Middle Ages could decapitate a person with one clean strike, see Anne Boleyn. However, the short Roman sword they were using, which was designed for thrusting?

Well…probably no. At least not so clean that it looked like he got slashed by a lightsaber.

Also, people don’t explode with blood at the slightest scratch.

Still, I do recall that Deadliest Warrior show where they used to cut ENTIRE FREAKIN’ PIGS in half with all sorts of swords.

In other news,Spartacus sells doritos before the Colosseum.

A good episode all in all. I have to say I feel really sorry for

Seppia. She is young, naive and frankly stupid. But now she is the toy of the most powerful and dangerous man in Capua. And to top it all off, I don’t think Glaber had much interest in her until she literally through herself onto him.

And, Nasir and Agron seem to be going the Barca way, a real badass who now appears only to allow the show to air gay sex.

I was sad to see Lucius go, it was kind of nice to have a Roman character that wasn’t an evil douche.

Well that was bad-ass. Illythia and Glabus have appropriately evil make-up sex. Sparty does something leaderish that’s not a rip-off speech from Braveheart. Also final battle sequence might be the best one I’ve seen on a TV series. Granted I’m sure it helped that their were small numbers of people on either side, but after having Game of Thrones and Rome basically skip all the battles stuff, it was pretty cool to see someone make a go of it on cable.

(also, for a guy from Syria, Ashur is sure familiar with the geography of Mt. Vesuvias)

I thought they could not top the face off bit. I was wrong.

Well he has lived in the general area for at least 5 years. The historic house of Batiatus was supposed to have been near the Volcano anyway.

Finally got caught up on this series in an epic three-day marathon of nerdy glory.

When I get filthy rich, I will so hire John Hannah to follow me around and do my cursing. Such a pity he’s not in season 2, he was easily the best part in it. And it was a very great pity to hear Andy Whitfield has passed away - you could literally see him improving both his character and his acting from episode to episode.:frowning:

Yeah, except too bad they have to face the Romans all hung over and sore from beating the crap out of each other all day!

Well, it was certainly the craziest come-uppence I’ve seen. She definately wasn’t faking it.

Mira, Ashur, Doctore, Lucretia, Glaber, Illithiya. Batiatus gone from last season and Barca and Varro having been become the beloved of Hades last season, and Andy Whitfields unfortunate death means that there is literally familiar face left from the first season except for Crixus.

And if they had to kill everyone, why could it not have been that whiny little Nasir?

I think your right. They switched out the actress that played Naevia in season 1 as well. Crixus may be the only person whose character survived from the first season and whose still played by the same person as they were from season 1.

(googling, I guess Spartacus’s somewhat forgettable German Lt. (Nasir’s lover) was in the first season as well. Still, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a show that had an almost complete cast turn-over. ER, maybe?)

HE came late in the first season with his brother. He was eminently forgettable so forgettable that they made him the token gay of the season, which he was not in the first season.

Lucretia’s death was certainly cinematic and beautiful, but it struck me as wildly out of character and totally unnecessary.

Yeah, beautiful like the Rorschach blob she left at the bottom of the cliff.

I liked it. I thought the most interesting thing about her and Quintus was that even though they were thoroughly evil, they both honestly loved each other and, Lucretia anyways, was very committed to the idea of starting a family. So the fact that she’s secretly been fixated on Quintus and her unborn kid through the last season seems perfectly in character.

As for the craziness and hyper-religiousity, I thought it was a good twist as well. I, and I assume the rest of the audience, thought she was faking it so that she could get revenge. Turns out, she was just honestly nuts and thought if she killed herself with a kid conceived in the House of Batiatus would let her have the family she wanted. I liked it because it was sort of a “plot twist that there was no plot twist”. Everyone assumed the reveal would be that Lucretia was just faking all that religious craziness, so the idea that she’s been playing it straight the whole time was a surprise.

Plus the writers seem to have decided to “clear the slate” as far as villans go, presumably so they can bring on Crassus et al. next season.
