Speak to me only in Science Fiction

He walked with equipoise, possibly in either city. Schrödinger’s pedestrian.

More than 100 years ago, a man named Zachariah Webb built a machine that broke and went to the future where these tattooed wackos found it and used it to swap souls. They swapped Lydia with a corgi to use as leverage to stop Patrick Spring, who is actually also Zachariah Webb having jumped through time to get his machine back. In 2002, after the Men of the Machine killed his wife, Patrick Spring, who was a fake identity created to be the son of Edgar Spring, who is actually Zachariah Webb, jumped forward in time to last week, destroyed the Men of the Machine, and then went to the Perriman Grand to confront his future self, which led to the young Patrick Spring accidentally killing old Patrick Spring when a kitten went off and set off a shark explosion.

If there is a time shift, it is by definition the future for one of us and the past for the other.

All is three. As you are three. As you are one. As you are the One. You are the one who was. You are the one who is. You are the one who will be. You are the beginning of the story, and the middle of the story, and the end of the story. That creates the next great story. Ah, in your heart, you know what Zathras says is true. Go now, Zathras’ place is with the one who was. We have a destiny.

“Who knows, maybe history will repeat itself.” He couldn’t help but notice that she hadn’t specified which version of history she was thinking of. She was far too clever for that.

I don’t know how it works across the pond, but I am black. There is literally no place in American history that’ll be awesome for me.

For the record, suspicion can kill, and prejudice can destroy. And a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own, for the children and the children yet unborn.

The first thought Renee Nez had when she saw the elder engineer approach was What does he want and will it require overtime?

You told me you could get this ship operational in two weeks, I gave you three, what happened?

What’s happened to us out there in space is beyond explanations.

(RIP, Martin Landau. This is a Space: 1999 quote from his character, John Koenig.)

Still, Earthmen had always been poor at waiting. Curiosity battled caution, and won, hands down. What were these ships? Where did they come from? Hostile or friendly? Why had they come here?

It is dictated by a rising bureaucracy, a receding initiative, a freezing of caste, a damming of curiosity—a hundred other factors.

No one can tell the difference between a clone and a human. That’s because there isn’t any difference. The idea of clones being inferior is a filthy lie.

Please, Peter. This is darker than red. It’s more of a… scarlet. It’s me, Peter. Ben Reilly. Your brother from another blood cell

Be extremely careful. You might scratch an itch and wind up bleeding to death. Remember, semi-logarithmic response: two pounds pressure exerts five pounds’ force; there pounds gives ten… Most of you can muster up a grip of well over a hundred pounds. Theoretically, you could rip a steel girder in two with that, amplified.

Smashing, unbeatable strength— With a spastic jerk he checked his swing just before the beam touched the wall.

“Steve, the things you did on the plane, and even before that, the way you knocked down that door… how did you do it?”

“Oh, slight of hand, slight of foot.”

Gant, can you fly that plane? Really fly it?

Today was different. Today he sat in the cockpit of this wondrous airplane because he’d chosen to. Because he’d found something he would never have believed might have existed just two years ago: a nation and a cause that was actually worth dying for. A world which would protect those he loved even if he was no longer in it, and which would extend that protection to everyone.

I don’t know how that thing of yours flies. I don’t even know if you can call it an aeroplane. But I’ve got to admit you got it off the ground, and the only thing I ever saw go past me faster was a bullet.
