I pulled out a DVD of John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers for tonight’s entertainment and was reminded that Buddy Whittington is a monster player. He has a lot of stuff on YT, check him out. He was with Mayall for quite a while and John knows how to pick guitar players. Blues oriented for sure. May have missed guitar hero status because he doesn’t look the part.
Well, that and there aren’t really any guitar heroes anymore in that EVH/Vai/Satriani/Malmsteen mode.
Yes, that’s true.
The whole John Mayall 70th Birthday concert (2003) doesn’t appear to be available in one chunk on YT but much of it is there in pieces. Mick Taylor, Buddy and Eric Clapton. Well worth a watch for blues fans.
Yes, I’m drinking and geeking out on blues music. Forgive me.
Oh God, I can’t stop! Here’s Buddy with Clapton.
Buddy and Eric
He’s a great blues player. Really controls every note. I honestly know very little about him, but yeah, I am sure he fell victim to the Ian Stewart rule. Stu was relegated from member to road manager of the Stones because of his look. Sad part of the business.
Heh, by that measure, Keef should have been a roadie!
Back in the day Keith did fine.
