Apparently, Betsy de Vos’ new department of education has repeatedly made som high profile spelling errors and typos.
Them educatered liberals have, quite predictably, gloated and pounced on these errors.
But I’m starting to wonder if that is a tactical mistake. Trumps voters are likely indifferent to such mistakes, and likely very hostile to any uppity educated ( educatered? Educted? Fancy learninged) people pointing out their mistakes.
Dont be divided, people. Point out thinking errors, factual errors, ethical errors. Not spelling errors.

I’m not sure if pointing out the spelling errors of the twitter feed for the DOE should be considered a tactic. It’s a funny-sad (we need a word for this) observation of the lack of gravitas that is plaguing this administration.
There’s also a pretty apparent internal hypocrisy going on (and I say this as someone firmly entrenched on the ‘liberal’ side of most every issue): the same people who point and laugh at Republican spelling errors (or GW’s ‘nuclear’ pronunciation) are often the same who rightfully point out that dismissing people based on spelling and punctuation is an action rooted classism and racism.
That said, I think it’s our government’s job to be smarter than the rest of us, or to at least give that impression; when my neighbor makes a spelling mistake, I don’t really care. When my government does it, I wonder what other things they’re not proofing/paying attention to.
Also, god knows there is enough misguided policymaking afoot to keep us all busy pointing all of it out. When our most high profile complaint is about typos, the other side might draw the conclusion that nothing more serious is going on and we are just being petty smug edumacated bastards.
I’m saying this on Dutch messageboards all the time, btw, in our debates around the upcoming Dutch election where we are now set to elect our own Trump.
If we are so smart, and we’re so well educated, and we have such good ideas, then *why are we not in power? *
Maybe it’s a distraction. If people are focusing on frantically sharing meme pics about spelling errors they won’t notice when they take away your child’s federally guaranteed educational services.
In all fairness, Dutch spelling is just ridiculous. If we’re going to start expecting people to spell correctly in Dutch then we might as well call everything else off.
