Did you read how nice they are? I could lounge around reading and messing around on the internet all day. If I tire of that I can take college classes or watch tv or dine on those gourmet meals. Take a walk around the lake or go fishing. Yeah, I think I could manage to make it through that hell.

As I suspected, it’s about 50/50. Turkey itself at this point probably won’t torture you for no reason like some other middle eastern countries might (only if the CIA asks them to). I took it as more a general, “long hippy confinement” vs " short sociopath confinement" question, and picked the Norway option guessing that it would result is less torture.
20 years is a long time, but 2 years is plenty enough for a sadistic jailer to seriously fuck you up. I’ve daydreamed about inflicting pain, but I have nothing on professionals. Simple time can not compete with literal hell.
That’s neither a high security prison nor a normal prison. Bastøy is the last stage of a rehabilitation track, and any inmate allowed to spend time there is at the tail end of their sentence with a good record.
The rationale behind the conditions at Bastøy is that it’s supposed to be the last step in rehabilitating criminals and should thus be as close to normal life as possible. According to the authorities, it seems to work…
But when they both seem hellish, the shorter time, I say!
