Spiked Hair: Who was the first?

Reading up on the history of Rock and Roll, Richard Hell claims that he was the first artist to have short spiked hair in early 70’s that was so vividly displayed in the UK Punk scene. Can anyone else think of a musician or actor prior to the American pre-punk underground, with that short on the sides/back, individual spikes on top haircut?

I think Alfalpha has him beat.

Ziggy Stardust?

actually, pre ziggy. the space oddity album cover. or was this post ziggy?

Space Oddity was before Ziggy, but if the cover had him in spiked hair it must be some post-Ziggy re-release (there were a lot of them).

At the time of Space Oddity he looked like…some damn hippie :).
bete who know way too much about David Bowie

Yep, it was Alfalfa. I will never forget, “I’m in the Mood for Love.”

A classic!

Just looking to the Bowie/Spike relationship. Space Oddity had him with a slight pageboy…at least in the video (some tv special for the time). Ziggy has more like a feathered hairstyle thanthe gel spikes of Richard Hell or later the Clash or Pistols.
