Spike's resurrection on "Angel"... let the speculation begin

Well, actually, it already has, especially at BAPS and The Stakehouse. But given that there are a number of rabid BtVS and AtS here on the SDMB, plus a few rabid Spike-o-philes, I thought I’d start a thread.

First question- will he be human, or Something Completely Different? I’d personally like to see Something Completely Different, but I’m betting he’ll be human.

Second question- if he comes back human, will he be a “normal” human (or at least as close to normal as a guy who was a vampire for 1.2 centuries can be) or will he have some kind of superpowers? I’m guessing he’ll get the powers. For one, he deserves a cookie for his sacrifice at the end of “Chosen”. For another, Charisma Carpenter’s leaving the show, so there will be a void left by Cordelia with the vision-having thing. Also, I think he should know about Connor…

Third question- if you think he’ll be Something Completely Different, what will he be? I’m thinking some sort of quasi-HBish being, possibly a kind of “Guardian Angel” to Angel and the FG. You know, the PTB send him along to try to keep them out of trouble now that they are employees of Wolfram and Hart. Not something completely invincible, but definitely extremely difficult to kill, if anyone or anything were inclined to try. I picture him entering and leaving the room in a supernatural fashion that Angel finds very annoying…

Fourth question- how will he arrive on the scene? Me, I picture him dropping, naked as a newborn, through a hole in the sky over the spot where Connor was born and the Beast rose, looking up as the portal closes and it begins to rain and saying, “Oh, bollocks!” Of course, now that Angel and the FG are in possession of the Wolfram & Hart building, he could potentially end up dumped into the White Room, somehow make his way to Angel’s office, and ask “I don’t suppose you could tell me what the bloody hell I’m doing here?”

Not taking any bets this time. I already owe Weird_Al_Einstein twenty bucks since the Spillow sex I wagered would happen didn’t…

I’ll play.

Whenever we’ve seen William the Bloody, he’s been a wimp. An Überwimp. If Spike comes back as a human, without the strength being a vampire gave him, will he lose his self confidence and become wimpish? Prolly not, since Fans of Spike™ would not stand for it. So Spike should retain some or all Spiky-ness. If not being a vampire with a soul, then he’s got to get special powers. I’m with you, Thea, in thinking it’ll be the visions. And he’s had a couple of seasons with a chip in his head, so James Marsters shouldn’t have a problem faking severe headaches and grasping his skull.
All this is assuming he will be part of the MoG. There is a chance he will be a foe, but I don’t think so.

And for him to hook up with Angel&Co - the white room and nekkid would be logical. Angel was nude when he came back, so I would presume Fans of Spike™ will get at least one scene with a lot of Spike-Flesh.

Well, this is technically cross-posting…

We can speculate that the amulet was reacting to Spike’s soul in some way to do the big torchy thingie. Since the big torchy thingie proved that it had been infused with Essence of Spike (knocked over the Sunnydale sign), does this mean that Spike, when he comes back, will no longer have a soul?

You should all read this interview with Joss in TV Guide on this very matter.

Joss admits he doesn’t know himself yet how he’s going to bring Spike back.

Interestingly, though, he does admit that he’s thinking about the shanshu prophecy.

I have not read any of the posts here because of possible spoilers, I am merely commenting on the title.

I seriously hope this title doesn’t mean that Spike is finally killed off at some point during season 7 (or even in the recent finale that ha sbeen shown in North America) because most of the rest of the world hasn’t seen it yet.

Spoilers should be kept out of thread titles.

If this has not been a spoiler than I apologise, but as far as I can see (halfway through season 6 so far) Spike is still his usual undead self.

Yay. I was right about Dawn.

All these Angel and Buffy threads go in and out of each other. But in the thread about a possible spinoff, my thoughts about Dawn’s story matches JW’s.

Interesting article, Fiver. And I get another point on the score-card when it comes to Spike’s death and why JW said what he said in TV-Guide last week.

Weee. I feel smart.

amanset, seeing that we share location, I don’t think you have grounds for a complaint. If you’re gonna wait for TV4 to show season 7, then you’re gonna have to wait another three years at the current rate. So then you’re either watching the DVD’s (which we get before the yanks), or you have other sources, as I have. And I saw the finale 32 hours before it was aired in the U.S.

Going back 20 years, the whole TV audience in Sweden not only knew that J.R. Ewing was shot, and did it a full year before the episode aired in Sweden. They also knew he survived and wodunnit, thanks to spoilers in the Swedish press.

Basically, I don’t think you have any reason to complain about spoilers about a TV-show, once it’s aired. If we shoudl take that into account and try to figure out if a thread title is a spoiler, for all countries where Buffy airs, it’s simply going to be impossible to write on this board.

YMMV.

I’m on the DVDs. Seven episodes into season 6 so far.

My mileage does vary. Season 7 has only just, as in this week, finished. In the UK, one of the countries closest to the US in Buffy- related things, they still haven’t shown the finale. If this was a year or so after it was shown then I understand, but if something happens in the final episode, as I suspect is true, then it is a spoiler and extremely unfair to put such a major thing in a thread title.

It is just thoughtless. I doubt that there is anywhere outside North America that has shown the Season 7 finale yet, but Thea Logica doesn’t seem to give a crap about them.

If spoilers aren’t such a worry, then why did the Straight Dope bother to implement the Spoiler boxes?

Also take note of the Stocky topic “Please be considerate with spoilers” at the top of the Cafe Society front page. Being considerate is oen thing that definitely hasn’t happened here.

Could it be that he won’t be on Angel, and reports that he was going to join the cast simply smokescreen so that his fate on Buffy would be a bigger surprise?

I suppose if that were the case we’d have heard the truth by now, though.

Oh, I wouldn’t be mad. I love William. I want to take William home and cuddle him and feed him cookies and listen to bad poetry. Don’t say bad things about William!

Revtim, did you read the article linked above? To quote Joss

As for how he’ll come back? I don’t know. I don’t care. For some strange reason, I trust that Joss won’t do something stupid like Evil Spike right after he sacrificed himself to save the world. Human!Spike…well, I have some philosophical problems with that that has nothing to do with what a geek or a wimp my precious William was. SoullessVamp!Spike. Eh, for Spike being soulless wouldn’t be a big deal. He wasn’t a paragon of virtue pre-soulled, but he wasn’t wreaking havoc either. But I’d be pissed aobut that because damnit he wanted his soul! Souled!Vampire? Well, so far, that’s the option I like best.
I do think he’d make a great foil for Angel no matter what he is. Human, soulled, or unsoulled. If he’s human, that means he’s got Angel’s reward, which I’m sure will miss off Tall Dark and Forehead mightily. If he’s unsouled (and unchipped) and not running around killing people, that’ll rub it in Angel’s face that Angel himself is a fucking psycho unsouled. If he’s all souled up, that’ll make Angel a bit less special…in Angel’s eyes. I don’t think it takes away from his specialness, especially if he uses his new-found powers for good instead of evil (which I doubt. Absolute power and all that…)
So in conclusoin, what I really want to see is a Spike/Wes/Lilah threesome.

Oooh, if we could switch out Lilah for Lindsay I am so there.

Or maybe **Thea Logica ** is (gasp) human and sometimes forgets that the non-North American world may be several weeks behind in seeing BtVS and posts under the assumption that since the episode has aired, everyone has already seen it and therefore spoiler warnings are unnecessary.

A gentle reminder in such a case would suffice. You don’t have to assume I’m being intentionally rude.

Otto, as long as Spike and Wes are involved, I don’t care who the 3rd party is.

Even if it were Lorne?

Vampire or human? Could go either way. Soul or no soul? Could go either way.

I will, however, bet the deed to the farm on the “Shirt or no shirt” question.

Oh yeah!

I’ll bring the beer!

WOO!

Lorne is cute. And out of makeup, the actor is muy caliente!

After seeing “Chosen”, I’d say it would be safe to assume that Spike will most definitely not be a vampire. So the question is, Human or Something Completely Different. Soul or no soul? Spike is all soul, baby. Seems to me that at the end, there was nothing left of him but his soul.

Shirt or no shirt? I’m thinking no. But then, there’s the issue of, pants or no pants? Boxers, briefs or commando?

COMMANDO!

If the Gods are kind that is.

I think Spike got some insight into himself concerning his mother in Lies My Parents Told Me, not to mention a century of experience, that would allow even human Spike to not be quite as simpering as William was before being Vamped. That being said, I’d like to see Spike come back as a mystical being, perhaps as a demi-god trying to rescue Angel Investigations from the clutches of W&H.
Naked, of course.
