World War Two Spitfire sale could fetch £2.5m
Last I checked a Spitfire would set you back two million dollars. But this one is a Mk. I, said to be one of only two in the world that has been restored to its original condition, and it was flown by Flying Officer Peter Cazenove during the evacuation of Dunkirk. He was shot down, and wound up in Stalag Luft III of ‘The Great Escape’ fame.
I vaguely remember when this aircraft was uncovered a long time ago. I had no idea then how unique it was.
If only I could afford to buy it! And insure it. And fly it. (In reality, I’d like a Mk. V. But I wouldn’t be choosy.)
