Okay, so I’m listening to my local morning drive show on the radio, and the jocks are making some fun of the fifth iteration of The Fast and the Furious. So some guy calls in and mentions that there’s a call-back scene after the end of the closing credits. But he won’t tell the jocks what’s in this little bonus scene, 'cos he doesn’t want to “spoil” it.
And of course, merely because my brain is perverse, now I HAVE to know what’s in the scene. Needless to say, I’m not going to go see the movie, much less stay through the end of the closing credits. But I still HAVE to know.
Crap. I saw the movie, but didn’t stick around after the credits. I figured there might be something at the end because:
Paul Walker’s character (Brian) always wants a rematch with Vin Diesel (Dom). In this movie, there was a scene where they all raced a quarter mile stretch for a million bucks as they boosted some police squad cars, and Brian thought he won at the last second… turns out Dom let him win because Brian was going to be the father of Dom’s sister’s baby. Brian found this out, and at the very end of the movie, Brian asked Dom for one more race, fair and square… Dom gives us a huge shit eating grin and… END OF MOVIE. Then the end credits were the two of them racing with stylized cinematography and crazy editing, and…
…I have no idea, because the group I was with got up and left before the credits were finished. Jerks!
There are cars and lots of driving fast. The male leads stride purposefully about with artful wind blowing. Someone gets punched. Attractive female derrieres will be shown.
It shows The Rock in his office at DSS, looking at pictures of “a 70’s Muscle Car in Germany…” They think its Dom, but the lady makes The Rock look at the pictures… and its Ledy, Dom’s “Dead” Girlfriend!! the girl says “Do you believe in ghosts?!” Dunt-dunt- DAAAAH!!!
Ahh, okay… so it was a call back to the previous films. I’ve only seen the first one, so it wasn’t a huge deal.
I will say I enjoyed Fast Five much more than the first flick (which isn’t surprising since it was less about racing, and more about crime/heist… more my speed, so to speak). Like any of these flicks, just go in thinking it’s a science fiction film in that the conceit is: The more testosterone the leads spray into the atmosphere, the more the laws of physics break down…
