<SPOILER!> Brazil vs. Turkey <SPOILER!>

Je m’appelle Crusoe. Ou est la gare, s’il vous plait?

Translation: Ball in the net !!! Ball in the net !!!

Brazil five-time champion !!!

Translation: I hope you’re right!

Translation: Of course !!! Without ‘Ballack’ Germany doesn’t have a chance.

That’s for all the Portuguese impaired here.
Getting back to the game though. Turkey is starting to look very dangerous now. Why does that damn clock have to move so slooooooooowwwwwwwlllllllyyyyyyyy at times like this?

A Rodaviaria estar bem na sua frente !!!

Damn typos.

That should be esta without an ‘r’

Should be about five minutes left now. Come on Brazil !!!

Yes !!!

It’s over !!!

Brazil wins !!! Now let’s beat Germany !!!

Ack. Well, congrats, Brazil. No I really don’t know who to root for in the finals. :frowning:

Wow, what a game. Turkey played very well. Felipao played a very conservative game in the second half. I’m looking forward to seeing the final with Ronaldinho Gaucho playing.

Mycroft, eu espero que dessa vez, o brasil ganhe na final. Eu quero ver uma nova camisa com cinco estrellas.

Crusoe

Je ne sais pas ou est la gare.

Turkey played bloody well, and fought until the last second. They really are one of the big forces in world football now.

And Leicester City’s very own Muzzy Izzet came on after about 75 minutes! I was so proud.

Well, so much for my lame prediction at the start.

Good luck to Brazil in the final.
Oops…that’s probably the kiss of death since ALL my teams lose.

Who could have guessed five years ago that this kind of a team would represent Turkey today?

I don’t really care who wins the game with Korea on Saturday, but hey, the 2004 European Cup in Portugal will be a lot of fun, I can see that even now!!!

And I feel we will have a tight competition with my English friends here:))

Well, I’m going to have to watch the repeat of the game at home. Unfortunately I was only able to listen to the audio here at work, so I’m not sure how well Turkey really played, though it seemed Brazil had more of the really big goal chances.

Brujo, eu nem tenho a camisa con quatro estrellas ainda. É muito dificil conseguir uma camisa da seleção aqui na Holanda. Mais seria muito bonito de ver cinco estrellas brilhando naquela camisa amarela.
Coldfire, who are you going to be rooting for in the game for third place? Should be Korea, consider Guus Hie Ding-Gu is coaching, right? Has PSV announced whether he’s coaching next year, or are they going to wait for the end of the game on Saturday?

You couldn’t expect to see a better match than that at this level. Tense, tight, both teams holding their shape to the end, negligible agro, super competitive. The contrast between the flow of Brazil v the close passing of Turkey was the highlight for me.

Bewdy bonzer and commiserations to Turkey.

Well, another underwhelming semi-final, though there were some nice chances that got thwarted last second. Brazil deserve the victory, though if Turkey had played the whole game the way they did the last 30 minutes, Brazil would have had more trouble. Gotta agree with the announcers that you have to question why Ilhan wasn’t on the field for more of the game.

And CHEEEERS for the Fox on the field!!! That was what Muzzy was angling for when he went with Turkey. Kinda satisfying he was in the semi-final game and not an English jersey around…

Brazil 2 Germany 0
Was it just me, or did it seem that Brazil let Turkey have WAY more play than they did England??

Ah, it’s the losers final, but yeah, Korea can get it as far as I’m concerned. It’ll be cool to see them on the field for the honour ceremony. No offense to the Turks, who have played an amazing tournament. What a talented squad! I’ll applaud for them just as hard should they end up third.

Hiddink has denied all rumours: he says his contract runs out after the last world cup match Korea plays, and that he doesn’t talk to other teams or countries until then. I believe him. I also believe his lawyers and PSV’s lawyers have all but finished the contracts.

I think that Turkey will probably beat Korea to take third place. They played an outstanding game against Brazil today. I’m really impressed by their goalie. I think that he is a lot better than Marcos. I’m glad that the game did not go into penalty kicks because I fear that Turkey might have won.

On a related note, who else thinks that the jerseys Brazil is wearing are hideous compared to the old ones? I mean they even look cheaper than the older ones.

I’ll look at the game again later but my initial thought was that the Brazilian central defenders were a lot freer in this game, presumably because the perceived threat wasn’t as great. Also, I imagine that plan (to allow defenders to come both wide and forward) probably had something to do with the absence of Ronaldinho and the impact that had on the midfield.

There really were acres of space this game behind the Brazilian full/wing backs.

I thought it was a lovely open match. The Turkish close control and ability to keep the ball was very impressive although I thought, overall, that they’re tactics weren’t dissimilar to England’s – defend deep and with the midfield both screening and covering runs right into the box, breakout and use the wide space behind the Brazilian midfield. Except they did it better than did England – or, rather, allowed their ‘breakers’ to take on the Brazilian defence in numbers. Something the England manager seemed too cautious to do.

Probably better control, reasonable defence and more possession through midfield than England managed and generally better on the break. I wonder how many times they watched the video of Brazil vs. England.

Looking forward to seeing it again later.

vai tomar…

ah, nevermind!

Brazil v Turkey

I really enjoyed this game. One of the most hilarious games I’ve seen in ages. Brazil really have no concept of defensive football. One minute to go, and they are 1-0 up, and they are concoting elaborate attacks involving 6 or 7 men in the Turkish penalty area with only Cafu sitting back in defence.

And then there’s Rivaldo taking ridiculous shots from all over the place just because he wants to score, despite the fact that he has other (better placed) players nearby who he really should pass to.

They were lucky Turkey didn’t punish them but I think, overall, Brazil were the better side.

Germany v Korea

Also quite funny in a way.

South Korea were fast, exceptionally fit, full of enthusiasm. They do really well all through the tournament. They knock out Italy and Spain. They are doing fantastic and then…

…and then, like so many before them, they meet the Germans. Who beat them 1-0.

Welcome to World Cup football, Korea. This is what happens. You do really well, you’re starting to feel really confident. And then you meet the Germans. Who beat you 1-0.

I think there’s actually a rule somewhere which states that this is what must happen in every tournament. It doesn’t matter how well you play or how badly Germany plays. They still win 1-0.

Anyway I have now decided that, since we in England invented football, you are all going to have to let us win occasionally otherwise we are going to take our ball back. If we can’t win then nobody plays.

I’m giving you one last chance in the European championships in 2004 and if we don’t win that then that’s it. The fun’s over.

Sounds like the First Law of Lineker to me, or a variation thereof.

I’d provide a quote or cite, but c’mon, I’m amongst connaisseurs.
