This has probably been asked before, but I don’t remember reading it if so.
With all the times we put spoilers in posts, couldn’t there e a dedicated icon/button for spoilers? Instead of putting in
and then substituting "SPOILER" for "CODE". Not that it's so very much trouble, but multiplied by the number of times used it would surely be a time saver.
Of course, keep the CODE button for other coding uses, although what those are I have no idea. We have buttons for inserting email links, which I have never used, and for PHP, which I don't even know what that is. So why not a button for spoilers? If it takes writing code to add to the standard software, I'll bet we have lots of posters here who would be both willing and able to supply the code.
So how about it?
It would require new code, and the new code would be of a sort that’s not accessible even to the administrators of the board. There are people at whatever-the-heck our parent company is now who would have the appropriate access, but those people have a lot of other things on their plate, little investment in this board specifically, and understandably tend to take an attitude of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” towards such things.
Keep in mind that the spoiler tag itself is an addition to the standard board software. But it’s a lot easier to add a new tag to the board than it is to add a button to the reply interface.
Oh, and the PHP tag is like the code tag, but has specific color-coding and the like for the PHP language. Which happens to be the specific language that the board is written in, hence its relevance.
Sure, those guys won’t add it. But that doesn’t mean we can’t with a UserScript.
I present the “SDMB S Button Adder.” Why S button? Because I got mixed up and did a strikeout button and only realized my mistake when I was about to post this.
As always, you can install it with GreaseMonkey on Firefox or TamperMonkey on anything else (including Firefox, actually).
Install the monkey first, then install my userscript.
(Also, what do you think of the icons? I think they fit the scheme here pretty well.)
