<SPOILER> Denmark vs. England </SPOILER>

::bootydance, bootydance, bootydance:: Booty for all England fans! w00t!

WHo won??

It’s half-time.

Halftime. Univision. My anemic Spanish can’t keep up with the comentators on Univision. [sub]damn you ESPN![/sub].

Anyway, Crusoe you may be right about the two teams reaction to the weather, but the Ingles have shown dominance in the rain. But, well, they’ve also shown dominance in the dry. So hey, good for the Limies

Owen off, Fowler on. Not hearing anything about an injury from my commentators here, anyone else?

I’m not seeing anything here, either, on the World Cup site or on ESPN.com.

Tactical subs: Fowler for Owen, Dyer for Scholes. Presumably to give them a run-out and get some match practice while we have a comfortable lead.

Mills is getting aggro now. Booked for throwing himself at a Dane.

Owen had a groin injury, Scholes had a “knock on the knee,” according to ESPN’s matchcast.

Neither looked badly injured, so maybe it was just precautionary.

Woohoooo!!

Go England!!

Final score: 3-0

Oh, god. That was beautiful. Just beautiful. And I have to watch it on tape-delay. Rassum frassum ESPN.

Still… more booty for England fans! ::bootybootybooty::

From the ESPN matchcast:
“England can look ahead to a quarter-final against the exciting, mercurial, enigmatic Brazil… or Belgium, who haven’t often been described in any of those words.”

Thoughts:

England played quite well in the first half. We played fairly poorly in the second; we just weren’t trying anymore. It’s good to see other players get a run-out and Owen rested, but I think it disrupted our tactics and boosted the Danes’ confidence.

Seaman and Mills were outstanding today. Both did the simple things well. Ferdinand, Campbell and Cole were also good, but I still worry Cole’s forward runs leave us exposed too much. Butt, Scholes and Sinclair all had decent games (as did Dyer when he came on). Owen looked sharp and dangerous, and even Fowler looked like a decent striker when he came on – I’m not normally convinced of his pedigree at that level.

I thought Beckham had a very poor game. His pace and ball control were questionable at best, and his crossing seemed a bit awry as well. I really didn’t think he added much to the game. The Guardian quoted Jakob Kjeldbjerg today as saying Rommedahl is a better all-round player than Beckham, and on today’s performance Rommedahl certainly worried me, despite some dodgy crossing.

Heskey was awful, despite his goal. Second-best in terms of pace, unable to trap or run with the ball, not a good passer and constantly prone to falling over. I’m sure some of that can be put down to a slippery pitch, but he just looked useless today. I’m convinced he got lucky with the goal, too. Sheringham didn’t do much better when he came on, mind.

I actually think Heskey is a good player, but his current form is pretty poor.

England are now apparently 7-2 second favourites ( behind Brazil).

Rommedahl worried me, too. So damn quick. But, we had him covered most of the time.

Mills was fantastic. Butt and Scholes are so reliable - when Dyer came on, I felt that we were slightly vulnerable due to his tendency to go for the probing ball rather than the safe ball. I don’t think Heskey was that bad, but he needs to show his pace, which he hasn’t done.

Congrats England - one more step towards Yokohama…

Denmark wa disappointing. Still, England were the better team today, and they won fair and square. Congrats guys, and don’t drink too much tonight!

Woohoo!!!

Heskey’s still crap but, but who cares, in the next round we’ll be meeting… :smack: bollocks.
Bring on Euro 2004 anyone?

Congrats to all the England fans out there. I got off the overnight from Incheon to LAX just before 10 am local time and they had the scores posted on a whiteboard as you exit the plane. I guess no one told them about the spoilers rule. For those of you in the States who missed it I think there is a replay on ABC or ESPN starting at 3:30 pm EST. I’ll get to watch most of it, looks like all the scoring, in the Delta Crown room here.

On England!

Just for the record, I would like to express how annoyed I still am. I want the damn game to be on NOW, not to be forced to sit through god only knows how many “special features.”

Honestly, what the hell was ESPN thinking?
