I had the idea that SHC was an established (but very mysterious), but I see it discarded as a myth more and more often, including by Cecil (not completely discarded, though)
I saw in a documentary a man who claims he was starting to heat up and burn but was able to stop it (I don’t remember if he stopped it intentionally)
And I just read of other cases like this
Isn’t there a yearly amount of cases that can be attributed to it?
Is it less of a fact than frog raining?

While there are other websites that try to support the idea of SHC they seem full of leeps of illogic and handwaving.
I don’t have a cite at hand, but I believe it’s a myth. I saw a documentary on The Discovery Channel about it that offered a more logical explanation than people just bursting into flame. In scenarios studied, people, often under the influence of drugs or alcohol, would pass out. A candle might fall on their clothing or blanket. The victim is so far under tha he or she does not wake up when his or her skin starts to burn. Humans have a good deal of fat on them. The fat starts to melt, and the fabric the victim is wearing acts like a candle wick. Over a period of hours, the body can be consumed while the surrounding combustible items such as a chair or a bed are not. Basically, it’s a very small, low-intensity fire that cannot be supported once there is no more fat to burn. The documentary showed one experiment with a pig’s carcass. The animal was wrapped in a blanket and doused with petrol. The petrol burned off very quickly and the animal was consumed by the slow fire of the fat-saturated blanket.
So using Occam’s Razor we can decide between two scenarios: Either humans can spontaneously burst into flame for no apparent reason, or a combination of common events that can be tested empirically can cause a person to burn to nearly nothing. The simpler explanation is that the victims don’t suddenly burn, but become human candles.
The documentary also said that apparently Americans tend to believe in SHC, while other nationalities do not.
And I saw a documentary once that took SHC apart, and showed exactly how and why and under what circumstances it happens and why “spontaneous” is exactly the wrong word for it.
How can you possibly make sense of the world if documentaries don’t agree with one another?
Seriously, SHC has been completely exploded and removed to the realm of ghosties and ghoulies and alien abductions.

Where do the documentaries disagree?
