Well, the trial version at least. You can download it here.
I’m not sure what the difference between the “free trial” and the real version is, given that it’s just a Creature Creator, not Spore itself. But I figure it’s worth $10 to find out. The real version isn’t available until tomorrow, so for now, I’m downloading the trial.
I heard about that and I was wondering if they were releasing the character editor early so they could get a database built of characters to populate the universes with. Do they upload like that, or are they just local.
Either way as soon as I get home I’m gonna design the hell out of some creatures.
Yeah, they do want you to upload your creatures so when Spore is released, there will be a gazillion creatures out there populating the universe.
I can’t wait until tomorrow when the real version is released - the trial version is pretty limited as far as the available parts are concerned. I can’t make my pug-critter without the appropriate curly tail!
I’ve been having a lot of fun with this thing today. My favorite critter was a monopod- a ball with two arms and one big suction cup foot underneath it. It hops all over the place.
One thing that annoys me, though… I preordered the full game, and I can’t figure out where to download the full version of the tool. I mean, I’d imagine that the preorder would also get you the full version of the tool, since buying the tool gives you a discount on the game itself. I can’t find any info on the Spore or the EA websites.
No, the full game - that is, Spore itself - is not available until September or October.
The full version of the Creature Creator, however, is available on Wednesday, June 18th. I got that info because I preordered it, and they sent me an email with the release date.
The full version of the Creature Creator is $9.95. From what I can tell, the big difference between that and the free version is more body parts.
Does the download of the full version actually work for you? I can’t figure out how to do it… no link on the pre-order page, and the “EA Downloader” app doesn’t say anything about it.
Sorry, missed edit window: Athena, the odd thing is that now I’m not actually sure where the heck I found the link to buy the full version. I can’t see a link on the pre-order page either. I *think *I clicked on an upgrade option from somewhere within the trial version.
Strange stuff indeed.
Anyway, if you do figure it out, beware: it’s like cocaine.
Heck if I can find out where to download it. I clicked around the Trial version, and every “download full version” link brought me to the web page… where I still couldn’t figure out how to download the full version.
But yeah, I did see the 12:00 CDT thing. So I guess I’ll try later on today.
