Ok, I used to be a runner, and I’ve got a lot of runner friends, and they were always watching this movie about some guy, I can’t remember his name. Ran in the Olympics I think. Might have broken a record or something like that. Really young guy, and he died young. Anyone know the name of this movie?
Strickly Ballroom (one of the funniest movies ever!)
and Shall We Dance
Plus for figure skating there are The Cutting Edge and the bringer of one of my least favorite movie songs Ice Castles.
Umm… Yeah. Just checking to see if you’re all paying attention, which, apparently, ArchiveGuy and Zebra aren’t (they both listed Ice Castles…). Speaking of not paying attention, we seem to have gotten away from the OP:
The IMDb lists 816 TV shows & movies in the sports genre. Someone with too much time on their hands could go through all 751 movies, weeding out the documentaries, and there’s your answer.
I listed it first, so there. Nyah. My basic understanding with this kind of poll is that if something’s already listed, you save the space and don’t repeat previous posts, in contrast to the name-the-best-whatever poll, where you want to see multiple listings.

I can’t think of any others off the top of my head right now though.
I just pictured Rodney’s facial expression as he pulls the sideway flip off the diving platform. Thank You.
And why is it, I got almost all the way through the thread before someone jumped on Over the Top? I thought I would make it!
Oh, and Poker certainly counts. It is on ESPN all the time. If it comes on ESPN, it counts. Thus, I nominate Bring It On for inclusion as it deals with Cheerleading. That means if anyone can think of a Spelling Bee movie, I think it should be included.
Back in the late 70’s, I think, there was a movie released in Australia called Dawn, the story of Olympic swimmer Dawn Fraser. Amazingly I can’t find it on IMDB. Will research further.
