Spy is cousin of White House Chief of Staff

Breaking news. How is it that the Bush camp didn’t move to break this themselves first? I’ll bet heads are rolling tonight!

In an interesting aside, her father ran a crooked campaign for governor in this state back in 1998. What the article doesn’t mention is that his wife is big in the “concrete business” in Chicago, and financed his campaign. The guy was run out of town on a rail after his shady dealings and failure to disclose where his money came from became public.

These wacky Republicans!

Well, what did he expect?, to hear noises of morse code transmissions coming from the attic at night?; besides, even spy´s dogs have to be walked.

I wouldn’t be in such a hurry to make this a partisan thing, seeing as it’s a story about an accused traitor who worked for four different democrats.

What, she’s related to pubbies? Are you kidding?

I’m sorry, Chefguy, but whose head exactly do you expect to see rolling?

Perhaps this woman is indeed a spy. And I’m sure she’s related to Andrew Card. But how’s that his fault?

I dislike the Republicans as much as the next guy, but I fail to see how they’re in the wrong here.

Lindauer started her congressional career in 1993 when she took a job with Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore. The next year she went to work for a second Oregon Democrat in the House - Ron Wyden. Two years later she joined the staff of Sen. Carol Moseley Braun, D-Ill.

!

HUH???

Think this will hurt Moseley Braun when she runs for president again?

It’s politics, Coldie - the connection itself is enough to be a problem - a least percieved as a problem. Could be a 5th cousin 12 times removed and there would still be a connection. Has nothing to do with reason and logic, let alone fault.

Yep and the connection to the Democrats is a lot stronger. She was the press secretary to 4 Democrats in Congress. She is a distant cousin to Card. She sent him letters trying to get him to influence the President on Iraq’s behalf. Card probably turned her in to the FBI. I doubt any Democrats will try to use this due to the fact that she is one of theirs.

BTW from what I have seen so far the case against her does not seem too strong.

You misread me, or perhaps I wasn’t very clear. My comment about heads rolling was made because I would think the Bush camp would want to break the news themselves, rather than have the media pick up on it first from some other source. I don’t think this tars Mr. Card at all, but in an election year, anything can damage or derail a campaign. Since the campaign folks didn’t get up on the issue immediately, I would think the White House would be pretty pissed off about it.

Oh, and my comment about the wacky Republicans was in reference to John Lindauer.

It’s interesting that the Seattle Post-Intelligencer itself went with that headline even though, as it says in the second paragraph, this person once worked for them.

And the AP didn’t seem to think it was important to mention that the “cousin”, Andrew Card, himself informed authorities. No, there’s no liberal bias in the media.

At least the NY Times did better:

One would think there’ll be more serious issues than this. It’s curious, then, that you’re grasping at this very thin straw.
