I actually went to Walgreens (can I say a store name here?) and they had a special on SPF lotions and I got 2 30’s for the price of 1. Nice. But BF complained that it wasn’t a 45 or whatever.
Question - anyone know - most makeup these days include SPF in their natural chemical…well, makeup. So is that SPF30 in ADDITION to the makeup’s built-in SPF factor?
So ignorant, and haven’t time to get to a dermatologist yet. Switching insurances and it’s a P A I N. Also, oral surgery Thursday, cause it wouldn’t be a year that has four digits in it if Inky didn’t have some kind of personal crisis to deal with.
Any way - you’re a kind bunch. I owe you all fruity drinks with little umbrellas in them on the beach. I’ll be the one in the wide-brim hat and Black (if I can find it) Zinc-oxide on my nose.
And, as Shirley Ujest said, once you get above 30 there’s little difference.
Well… if you’re wearing a foundation of SPF 30, no, not where you have the foundation, but if the SPF is only 2 or 5 or whatever it can’t hurt to use sunblock along with it. The main problem is that you need to reapply sunblock fairly often, particularly if you’re swimming or sweating. It might be easier to use sunblock instead of make-up if you know you’re going to be outside for an extended period.
Another thing you can do… you can photograph any spots, moles, or blemishes, date the photograph, and keep it as a record. Do this every 3 months and that way you’ll have something more reliable than just memory. You will also have a visual record to show to your doctor, or any doctor you later switch to. Use a digital camera and you’ll have complete control over the photos and be able to make copies as needed. In fact, dermatologists have been taking photos of their patients’ skin for years for the very purpose of tracking these sorts of things.
The point is, that’s something you can do right now that will help you into the future. You don’t have to wait for insurance, pay anyone else anything, or delay to take this step. If nothing changes between photography sessions… well, you have piece of mind. If something does change you’ll catch it early.
