I’m not a cruise singer! Except that I am!
He is exactly the kind of singer I hate, but I wish they’d kept him for the entertainment value of him getting on Simon’s nerves.
j is right. These people have to be told that they can’t sing. Bluntly. And sometimes that doesn’t even work.
Simon said the short girl sounded like she’d been sucking helium. This is the same guy who pimped Fantasia to America last season. Someone help me out here. When did Simon decide he didn’t like that helium-sucking sound?
I’m rooting for shorty.
Aww…look at the cute retarded guys.
The suck…it burns…
I think it is likely that the whole Adam and Dirk thing was a put on. Either that, or we’re seeing the ugly consequences of K-12 programs built on self-esteem.
Boy that guy with the stage mom dodged a bullet. Did anybody see that reality show a year or so ago, I think it was called Stage Mom. They should have another one with this kid and his mom. That or call Child Welfare.
The short braided child is certainly interesting, I’m looking forward to following her progress.
I liked the music student better than his over-emotional teacher, but that’s likely because I could see where his overly stylized singing came from and almost give him a pass on it, but of course the judges aren’t seeing what we’re seeing.
I dug the triplets, until the one busted out into the attitude.
He was cute! (And good!)
I didn’t think those triplet sisters were overweight in the slightest. I thought they were average-sized, but those terrible dresses accentuated their stomachs. Their faces looked like Barbie, or something.
I’m glad the farm girl made it. Even though she wears too much blue eyeshadow.
The cruise ship singer looked about 37. How old was he really?
I was surprised that a lot of people made it through, like the helium girl, but then I figured it’s probably easier for them just to say yes to someone’s face and then kick off all of the iffy ones as a group in one of the next rounds.
I liked Ozzie Smith Jr, as well (I also wondered if the judges were going to ask him if he could do a backflip. I bet he’s never heard that before).
I liked the little helium girl also. I thought she was a pretty good entertainer. I liked watching her. She was different.
And that cruise ship singer was SUCH a cruise ship singer.
I thought the music student was really good. Maybe they should’ve told him what affected meant.
I thought he was pretty good too. At keast good enough to go to the next round.
Before he started singing the second thing, I turned to my friends and said, “D’ya think he knows what ‘affected’ means?” Judging by the way he started to sing the second song, he didn’t.
Despite the cruise ship cheesiness of his presentation, he was actually good, and I’ll wager he would have gone through if he hadn’t been Miss Attitude up in Simon’s face.
I had the same impression. Randy started off with some compliments and I think he and Paula would have passed him to the next round if he hadn’t been so pissy.
Yeah, I think it may be a radio station prank. Apparently there was one that got on air last season and Simon got super pissed at it, but I can bet you radio stations across the country sent people to stink it up and get on the air.
Heh heh.
I thought Shorty was really good when she busted in the doorway with her little hip-hop shtick; but when she sang for real I thought I was hearing a long-lost member of the Lolly-Pop Guild. I’m kinda hoping that her mom will plotz on camera.
Right now Farm Girl and Constantine are the two whom I am rooting for.
I felt really bad for Brian McKnight Guy.
Farm Girl was fantastic. And I hate country.
What I liked about her was that she was natural. Natural middle of the country, blue eyeshadowed beauty, natural sweet strong voice.
I was rooting for Fantasia from the audition (go look at the thread from waaaay back then. I remember they showed her audition, she made it through and then they didn’t mention her again for months.) then again I love Macy Gray. But I did not love MC Squeel’s voice. Not even a little bit. But there’s no denying she’s got a presence.
Ditto. She was good, though. C’mon, Farm Girl!
