ST: Enterprise "Countdown" Ep. 3x23 (spoilers)

And that’s another thing. When did they start calling it the “transporter”? It was called the “transportation device” back in the pilot (by analogy with “phase pistols”, “photonic torpedoes”, and other such quaint, antiquated yesteryear names for the later treknology we know and love).

Couple things…

Did anyone else see the horrible tactical decision they made in how they pulled the strike team off of the Reptilian ship? Never leave a single person behind if possible. I understand the need to get everyone out as soon as possible, but still. They should have ordered the transport out so that Hoshi went first, then two MACOs, then the final two.

When they first showed the wide shot of the Sphere’s interior, with a bunch of ramps and catwalks centered around the control center/decorative spinning ball, did anyone else expect to see a lightsabre fight break out?

Oh, that reminds me! This HUGE Sphere and the Reptilians are walking around on catwalks (great point about a lightsabre fight breaking out :)).

So the Sphere is full of air?! Do you have any idea how much mass that unnecessarily gives to the Sphere! Plus you need an atmospheric processor (or at least two :)).

Since Degra commissioned the Aquatics, this explains why the Sphere was originally underwater, but why would they build the thing to support an atmosphere?

Not to worry though. The Aquatics probably put in a remote detonator.

Yep – thank goodness she was saved by that Asthmatic Eel.
Er… or was it an Insomniac Eel?
Perhaps an Osmosis Eel?
(okay, okay… Osmotic Eel, I know… quit throwing things…)

On the Major Hayes beamout – there were TWO shots, not just one. The first one hit the “just starting to be transported out Major Hayes” and it stopped at his body – didn’t go through him. The second one went through his “now almost finished dematerializing form” (and I think that’s the one everybody keeps referring to – the one that visibly seemed to go through him). The way I see it, it’s the first shot that gave him the injuries (the one that was stopped by the bulk of his not-quite-yet-sparkly body). Not the one that went through him.

YES! I was yelling at Hayes about that, but he apparently didn’t hear me. I didn’t have a problem with two going first (Hoshi and the guy carrying Hoshi), but then it should have been ONE person, and then the last two for the final beamout. Since two can “hold position” for a few moments easier than one.

Of course, Hayes’ next bad tactical decision was to run out into the middle of the corridor for his beamout, rather than from the positions of cover like the others.

Perhaps his vocal chords were the last parts to arrive…

Stop! You’re getting me hot!

Absolutely. Should definitely take more than just three volunteers.

Anybody else notice that after Hayes’ dying words were something about “Use McKenzie… she knows the team”, none of the volunteers that Malcolm picked were McKenzie?

Gosh if I had a dime every time I’d heard that…

Well… I could probably afford a gumball at least…

And another thing… The reptilians only seem to have normal weapons now. What happened to all those uber-weapons they had when they raided Enterprise in “Raijiin”? I would have thought they would try using one of those Snot Shrapnel Bombs on the MACOs in the hallway fight, at least…

Yes, I noticed that too! I was waiting for him to pick a McKenzie and was disappointed when he didn’t. There’d better be some chick named McKenzie doing something in future episodes or else I’ll wonder why they bothered . . .

Hello, tarragon!

Hey, where the heck is LinusVanPelt these days??

It was definitely an osmotic eel.

ENT is moving to Fridays at 9pm and there will be 24 episodes. That is the official word as of now.

Season Four, yeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!
(Sorry, I was Howard Deaning* for a bit.)

Now can they get back to exploring the regular galaxy?
*Was that his name? I’m getting a little foggy.

For yosemite:

“Your agonizer, please.”

or

Get your Ass to Mars!

Re: the comments on the Aquatic’s ship - I really loved the lines of it too and might have a new vessel to drool over in addition to such beauties as the D’deridex, Valdore, Prometheus, and Defiant class vessels.

Random thought: I wish each Xindi had species names instead of just adjectives. Arboreal, Reptilian, Aquatic, Insectoid, Avian, and Humanoid (this one especially) all sound odd when spoken by the members of the Xindi council. I can understand us Earthers doing it but them?

I don’t remember that at all but that would explain it quite well.

  1. Good question. I’ll email him; see if he’s doing okay.

  2. No! We need the Earth-Romulan War now! It’s never too early to build up to it!

I’ve sent emails to Linus but haven’t heard back. I thought he might turn up here.

Head up: The May 25 Hollywood Reporter should contain an ad placed by The Enterprise Project with a big fat thank you in it. Had the show not been renewed, it would have had obviously different text.

I have a couple of links, but the .html didn’t work for me and I don’t know if y’all could see the .pdf file.

I must say it’s a beautiful ad–and it should be, considering how much it cost.

Why bother? It’s obviously going to end next year.

To say nothing of the artificial gravity generators, which allowed them to walk on the catwalks in the first place.

Rewind is your friend. So is frame advance…

I did go back and double check on the tape – and there’s one shot (which starts at front view – we’re looking at Hayes), and as it’s hitting him (as the transport begins), the view switches to side view. That shot clearly explodes at his chest and fades, then another shot (still side view) flies through him as the transport is finishing.

Thanks! You come through again!

However, I’m beginning to wonder whether I should look forward or fear your posts!

One of the few realistic Trek concepts is that if you have matter-antimatter power generation, you have power to burn, as it were.

Yeah, but Corner Case’s point was that having air and atmospheric processors on board adds unnecessary mass. Having artificial gravity generators on board would also add unnecessary mass.
