Lately, I’ve been trying to get many of my friends to go with me to see Blade Trinity. I know it’s going to be utter shit, but I seem to hate myself, because I absolutely love shitty movies, and it looks like it may be right up my alley in that respects.
Anyway, the most common response I get from people is “No, I haven’t seen the other two.”
Now, it may be just me, but I don’t feel like one would need to see the other two. Sure, there are some ties, but all you really know is Blade’s a half human, half vampire who kills vampires. Done, and done. So, having seen the previous two movies wouldn’t be a requirement.
Got me thinking…what other movies work where you could see the sequel and not have seen the original, and still gotten by alright?
I feel most of the horror movie franchises work in this vein. I’ve seen plenty of Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and Hellraiser movies, but none of them in the appropriate order, and really…it didn’t matter. The same could be said for Aliens. Sure, seeing the previous film enhances the experience, but really…it doesn’t seem like it’s much of a requirement to understand the characters and what’s going on.
Army of Darkness is another one. Shit, most people don’t even know that it’s the third Evil Dead movie.
**Shock Treatment[/b ]'s another one that tends to fall into that category, but then again, hardly anyone’s actually seen it.
Anyone know of any others?
