Standard Brownie Mix + Peanut Butter

I bought some peanut butter brownies and they were quite good.

I’m no cook but I will buy a brownie mix when it’s on sale. I was just wondering if I wanted to make peanut butter brownies, could I just add some peanut butter to the brownie mix?

Would this work? Or is there more to it than that?

If so how much peanut butter is about right to add?

Thanks

I’ve never made them, but I found this recipeon allrecipies.com. It sounds really good.

I don’t know if I would mix it right in to the batter, but instead swirl it in.

I think you have to make the peanut butter into batter of its own and then swirl it in. Here is a recipe that looks similar to what I mean. You could substitute the pre-made brownie mix for the brownie recipe, then swirl in the peanut butter mixture. Let us know how it turns out. Makes me want a brownie…

thanks I’ll try it

If you were going to use a mix anyway, you might as well buy the refrigerated block of chocolate/peanut butter brownies (Nestle’s, I think) that you just take out of the wrapper and set into an 8 x 8 pan and bake. It’s a mostly-chocolate brownie with a layer of peanut butter in it. I made it last night, and it’s good for convenience food. Definitely satisfies the chocolate/peanut butter craving.

Another easy trick: buy any regular brownie mix and bake per box. After that’s out, mix peanut butter and powdered sugar until you have something about the thickness of bread dough. Spread this over the brownies as frosting – do it while the brownies are still warm but not hot, the heat will make the spreading much easier.

Ta da!
