So… some stuff happened didn’t it?
The fan theory about the sleeper agent was basically confirmed. The doctor was murdered in a somehow empty sick bay and Discovery is in he Mirror Universe with a call back to both Enterprise and TOS Trek.
There was a rumor the Mirror Universe was coming and I assumed it would be one episode but we are still there by episode’s end so I am curious to see how long this lasts.
I was extremely bothered by Culber’s death - you may remember me worrying they were planning to go the Bury Your Gays route with Stamets when he started having the weird side effects from the spore engine…having it (apparently) go that route, but with Culber, instead was very disappointing.
Given that they’ve already done time weirdness, and showed Stamets’ connection to the spores, I am formulating theories about how the back half of the season will go.
I’m forming the theory that the Captain Lorca we’ve had is from the mirror universe himself - a (relatively) good guy over there who’s sort of adopted his new home (we’ll call it prime). Perhaps he switched with the previous Lorca prime, who went on to attempt a coup against the Emperor, at some point in the past.
…lordy, it gets difficult to describe my speculations when it’s concerning multiple universes.
It seems odd that in showing a gay relationship is completely normal they would do it with 2 gay actors, (I know Rapp is because of the reporting of the Spacey thing). Of course that could just have happened randomly, but statistically unlikely.
OK, so as everybody expected, Tyler is indeed a Klingon spy. But is he Voq? I thought he was, but now I’m not so sure anymore—maybe it’s a bit of misdirection. He’s definitely undergone some physiological as well as psychological refitting, but asking viewers to believe that the medical scan would not be able to tell the difference between a human and a Klingon does seem a bit too much.
He has enough scarring in front of his organs, they apparently can’t see the organs.
He has a personality ‘on top’ of another one.
His legs/arms were shortened.
Basically - they put a Tyler skinsuit on Voq and somehow got his personality/mind over as well.
The entire ‘flashback scene’ in the brig was meant to show Voq as trying to ‘come out’ of hiding.
As I said - I honestly think I’m done - they retread the Mirror universe* - down to a goateed Sarek - this bit with Tyler/Voq is MacGyver level stupid.
Won’t be surprised if they drop the gay angle. They are dropping it for streaming globally on Netflix every Monday world over and since homosexuality is a big no-no, in the vast majority of the world, makes sense that they might pull back, at least.
Forming? At this point it would be silly if he wern’t
He has agonizer like scars.
That Admiral said “She didn’t know him anymore”
He keeps a phaser handy
He took in a mutineer
He collects weird powerful artifacts.
He KILLED his entire crew rather than allow them to be captured. (also a handy excuse)
He flat out said “Time to go home” before going to the Mirror Universe.
@Dale Sams - don’t forget that he also sent the Admiral on that meeting and DID NOT attempt a rescue when it was found out she was captured. This was directly after she said “and when I get back, you’ll step down” bit.
I was glad when they pink shirted the Doctor. Dude has to be the most boring character in the show, and now they are gonna bring him back magically. Bah, it was a good death, let him go and have stammets do what ever.
Captain Lorca looking at Tilly, expecting her to get out of the captains chair and getting impatient.
So - I rewatched it - I’m still not happy with it.
a couple of things
a) Saru’s ‘things’ pop up whenever Tyler is in the room - you’d think he’d start to put things together.
b) in the brig scene - L’rell specifically says (after the klingon back/forth) that “something’s wrong, the prayer should have helped you remember who you are”
c) In sickbay - the Dr. specifically say’s he’s been ‘transformed’ - mentions marrow transfusion amongst other things.
None of which, of course, accounts for how much different in shape the skull itself is - maybe klingons don’t need the back half of their head? (amongst many other things at this point).
So, in the end - Tyler == Voq.
Pretty sure that Stamets will be blamed for Culber’s death - and that TyVoq will have cleared the sensor logs, etc.
I can’t decide if I want/care to keep watching - likely I will, if nothing else to have something to shout at each week - after all, there is only so much I can yell at MacGyver and I quit watching the Walking/Talking/Stupid dead.
