I saw a couple references to this being an anthology series. My understanding is that anthology is what Bryan Fuller wanted to do originally, but the suits wanted it to just stay with one ship. This disagreement led to his leaving the project over the proverbial creative differences, so we’re not likely to see an anthology format, cool as that would have been.
Yeah, they decided against the anthology theme, but it still has that feel to it. I’ve always wanted to see what the other people are doing. Sure, we see the adventures of the flagship crew, but what is everyone else doing?
You know, the usual: manning a backwater space station, getting lost on the other side of the galaxy, that sort of thing, probably. 
Having a language misunderstanding with another culture, entering some kind of temporal anomaly, being possessed temporarily by some kind of alien entity, you know the drill.
