I’m excited! New Trek on TV!
Episode One premieres on TV but Episodes One and Two will be available for streaming. As courtesy I think any Episode 2 spoilers should be hidden at least for a few days since some people may not see it right away.

I’m hoping for the best with episode 1, but don’t really plan to try the streaming thing unless this is the best Trek since TOS. I actually hope the CBS streaming attempt works as well as Yahoo’s did a few years ago*. Then they just move Star Trek, Discovery to the CW where it probably will do well.
Ironically CW in NY area is channel 11, the old WPIX that always was the station for Star Trek (in repeats) for all of the 70s and most of the 80s and then had Next Gen. So it is the Star Trek channel in NYC at least.
Packers game is in OT, so show may be delayed.

I’m excited to watch it, but no matter how good it is, I ain’t paying CBS to watch future episodes.
Thank you for that. I’m going to hold off on CBS All Access for at least a week.
Start time :48

I have to sit through Oprah and a bunch of people talking about Trump.
Wow. Trek ism’t even trying to do analogies anymore.
Those gold spray painted Klingons were not an auspicious beginning.
Pros - Cool special effects.
Cons - Number One and Chief Science Office arguing like 5 year olds. Michelle Yeoh’s wooden acting.
These blinged out Klingons seemed to have crawled out of King Tut’s tomb. The whole thing is kind of silly so far.
I’m not doing it. If positive buzz lasts beyond the first few episodes, I’ll wait and get reamed on the DVD set.
Those are both very spacious bridges.
I have one of the few analog TVs left in this country, with decent resolution. What was the symbol the Captain made in the desert at the opening?
The Federation “A” symbol.
That was ridiculous and very poorly written. Certainly not worth paying to see it on CBS. I’ll wait until it’s eventually offered for free in the future. I predict it doesn’t last the season.
Well, that was disappointing. Everyone behaving irrationally with the emphasis on pulse pounding action and special effects. They desperately need good writers to come up with some thought provoking material.
So this was very intense and very different (not in a bad way) from preview Star Treks. Mutiny right off the bat, the titular starship didn’t even appear, and no cameo* from a previous Star Trek series or movie
The Starfleet emblem.
Yeah, I’m not happy with the design for the Klingons, but apparently this is supposed to be an reclusive House and very different from mainstream Klingons.
*I’m not counting Sarek because he’s played by a new actor and is slated to be a recurring character.
Better than “Encounter at Farpoint” (not that it is saying much).
There was a robot type thing, right? (did it have any lines?)
Attacking may have gained the Klingon’s respect, but then they would return that respect by firing back…
Curious where this goes, but probably not $8/month curious…
(Can I sign up in May, watch all the episodes, and then cancel?)
Brian
So, I’m not watching but I’ve seen some points on Twitter so allow me to fanwank.
First of all there are several types of Hominids. Just because they all died out except for humans doesn’t mean all versions of Klingons died out. This can explain these amphibian looking Klingons.
I hear they have cloaking tech too. (siiiiighhhh) Obviously by Kirks time this ‘house’ has died out and they took their cloaking tech and went home. Or maybe the ruling Klingons seen in season one of TOS think its dishonorable to go to war with Cloaked ships. By season three those guys are not in charge anymore.
TOS Klingons had no honor. They had the morals of Ferengi.
