I’m still at work. Woe is me. and it’s only 5 here.
Act I: Quantum doesn’t trust anybody he doesn’t know.
1st reference of religion is a Scientology type of statement about medical care.
Ah… the Expanse is called the Chosen Realm by PTP.
PTP worship the spheres, or so they say.
And, now we have a Creationism vs Science type mini debate with T’Pol and head PTP guy.
PTP Babe got big ol’ titties!
I can’t quite put my finger on the religious type they’re portraying. And why do they ALL have pony tails?
With the tattoos and stuff, they resemble American Indians. Yet the suicide bombing smacks of Palestinians.
:dubious:
PalestIndians?
Act II:
Phlox rocks!
I do believe Tripp’s been working out.
Quantum used the right word: Murder. You can see the hate in his expressionless face as he says those other words under his breath.
They are warring against a violent group of heretics undermining their very way of life.
Now they’re sounding like a mix of militant Islam and ultra-fundie Christianity with a healthy helping of Inquisition (I wasn’t expecting that!)
Deleting the data got a bigger rise out of Quantum than killing that crew member.
[this is a long act…]
It’s looking like a Isreal / Palestine situation now…
Quantum did good in his debate with Head PTP Guy. And one of a good descision on which crew member to sacrifice, though we did see that coming, now didn’t we?
Funny, Tars!
We may have to change PTP to PalestIndians. Y’all decide.
Also, I left out a hell in the last post. Between one and of.
Maybe they’re fans of Secretary but they left the bits and bridles at home.
Just got my tape tonight.
I thought it very good, if a remake of
“Let This Be Your Last Battlefield”.
I couldn’t decide if they were Palestinians or Crusaders.
Act III:
Finally, a good use of the transporter as a secret technology! (Site to site, I’m guessing.)
Porthos!
AOL Instant Messaging still exists.
“You’ve got mail.”
Okay… now it’s sending up charismatics like David Koresh. I guess they’re just sending up all the bad bits in whatever religion you are thinking of.
Another jab at Creationism.
Sure are a lot of blinking lights in this episode.
Next week, on an all new preachy Enterprise!
okay, the “creation in 9 days” vs. “creation in 10 days” bit… they are getting a little over the top with the preachy messages. Looks like it’s about:
- arguments between denominations about the details.
So, is Archer going to get to kill Osama bin Forehead at the end? Stay tuned…
Next Week: Enterprise gets the Holy Ghost
Phlox: I FEEL the power!
And only one man can stop him, the GHOSTBUSTERS!!!
Hoshi: Hey, the Ghostbusters are FOUR men!
T’Pol: SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
Bill Murray: Hey, I did Lost in Translation, why am i in this dreck?
Trip: Can i be a ghostbuster?
Spangler: No.
Climax:
Malcolm gets all wet when he thinks he gets to shoot people!
Phlox rocks!
Why didn’t Quantum free some Maacos?
Oh, he did.
Good Kirk style fist fighting!
Denoument:
What to do with PTP? Take 'em back to their planet.
You can’t handle the truth!
carn was right. Let That Be Your Last Battlefield, down to the tattoos on opposite sides of faces. Heavier message than the TOS show, I think.
Setting us up for the revolution against all religions?
I liked it. Not stellar, but good. Had a message, but I agree with the message. Blind faith is harmful in the wrong hands.
No Jake 2.0 this week?
Yeah, that was silly. Could’ve written almost anything else in that line.
That’s why it’s not a stellar ep. Some other nits, too, but that one line ruined a great show.
coulda had class… coulda been a contender…
I think the message was more on the lines of “Blind faith is harmful in ANYONE’s hands.” It don’t matter who. Well, that’s IMHO
Don’t forget that at the time of the Inquisition(s), Roman Catholicism was a fundamentalist variety of Christianity! (Even going so far as to condemn cosmologies in which the Earth went around the sun.)
I see your point. And it’s well taken. But I think that for bad to come of blind faith, you need a corrupting agent. There are lots of nice normal believers out there, of many faiths, but very few Fred Phelps or Osamas. ymmv.
I think the reasons I like this ep is because of it’s message and its stealing from other series eps, like TNG’s Starship Mine and TOS’ Wink of an Eye ( in adition to LTBYLB )
The dark side of fundie religionists was highlighted all through the ep. And it’s something I believe: In most cases, extremes are bad. In religions, adhering to an extreme often leads to fear. Fear leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
I look forward to hearing from someone who disliked this ep and the reasons why.
BTW, Kinthalis, welcome to Trek Doping. Or, have I been to self involved to notice your previous visits?
Completely IMHO, but I think BLIND faith is already a bad thing. There are moderates that aren’t bombing buildings or killing abortion doctors, but they may be mistreating a gay family member for example, or allowing ignorance to color their responsabilities to society.
Faith, I think, should be tempered with a little commons sense
I agree with the rest you ahd to say.
No, this actually is my first trek related post. thanx for the welcome!
TIME FOR INITIATION!!!
I’ll get the Targ Oil, NCB can get the Ferengi Staff of shame, plant can bring the 14 monkeys, and Corner Case should bring the Denebulan First Aid Kit! Viva can videotape!
Phew! Atleast there was no mention of Klingon pain stick!
I’ve got the case of Ferakkian leeches. Where do you want them?
Here’s the Staff O’ Shame. Sorry about the blood and fecal matter.
Don’t ask (it’s not mine).
I liked the plus size mommy model. And, btw, you call that plus size!? That’s a HOT woman!
