Star Trek: Nemesis.... why!?!?!

I disagree that Nemesis was all bad, the problem with Shinzon was that they neutered him as a villain by having him needing a transfusion from Picard to live. Sure that gave him the motivation to not just go to Earth cloaked and destroy it, but with a bit of effort they could have had a better plot.

I though Data’s sacrifice was well done, reminiscent of Spock’s, the addition of the B4 seems almost like an afterthought. The whole scene on the desert planet with the lizard people seems tagged on somehow. However, the film as a whole works for me and I enjoyed it.

Besides, they rewrote Nemesis and moved it back in time, presenting it as the new Start Trek reboot.

I liked the movie when I saw it, mostly, but disliked it the more I thought about it. A positronic signature can be detected from light years away? Jeez, no wonder the bad guys keep finding the Enterprise. Driving around the desert planet on four-wheelers was just stoopid - so much for the Prime Directive. And why would Shinzon want to destroy Earth? His beef should be with the Romulans.

The wedding reception was nice, I’d agree, and the Enterprise ramming Shinzon’s ship was cool, as was Data jumping through vacuum. I’ll say that for it.

Pretty much agree with all that. First time I saw it, I thought it was OK, but on a subsequent viewing, I realised just how weak it was.

The franchise was pretty much the Picard and Data show by that stage. The only line I remember Worf having was “they fought with honour”. Was that the best they could come up with?

Overall, the movie felt like it had been directed by committee, with a definite attempt to do the best bits from TWOK, regardless of whether they fitted the plot or not.

I REALLY REALLY want to like Star Trek. So much of it was cool, but so much of it was really awful too. TNG was very good in places, but rubbish in others, DS9 was a pretty good, but since then it has been down hill all the way.

Worf also hated whatever Data was singing and stated that Romulan Ale should be illegal.

Voyager had it’s moments too.
New Trek is a great space action movie, but a terrible Star Trek movie. I’d have rather seen another TNG movie or even something different that didn’t screw up the timeline.

I agree that Voyager (and Enterprise for that matter) had good episodes, but unfortunately, they were few and far between, and the rest were garbage.

Everyone says the new movie is good, but try as I might, I just cannot bring myself to watch it.

Data purposefully has his android body altered to simulate aging so he can look more human. Why he has grey hair in All Good Things

I haven’t read it, but didn’t the graphic novel “Countdown” have Data as captain of the Enterprise-E after somehow taking over B4’s body?

Better yet, IIRC:

Worf (badly hung over): “Romulan ale should be illegal.”
LaForge: “It is.”
Worf (pause): “Then it should be more illegal.”

Maybe the best line of the whole movie…

I don’t think Nemesis is as bad as everyone else. Here’s my list:

First Contact
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Generations
Star Trek
Nemesis
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Insurrection
Star Trek 3: The search for Spock
Star Trek V: Whatever (I seriously don’t remember the title and don’t care to look it up)

It’s still in the bottom half of my list, but there are four movies that I enjoyed less.

The thing about Nemesis to me was that it all seemed so tired and done before. Like they were walking through a checklist of stuff they had to accomplish for the movie.

The villain wasn’t all that intriguing and he actually looked kind of funny with the bald head and pursed lips and spiky alien emo leather gear. His cohorts weren’t interesting, the scene with the dune buggy in the desert seemed pointless and tacked on, and Data died just like Spock, but they have another android like him, so it’s OK.

It could have been better, I think, but like a bad marksman, they keep… missing… the target.

Anyone else have Shriekback in their heads now?

Star Trek: Nemesis
Parthenogenesis
Everybody happy when Data gets cloned…

don’t lie. you knew it was “The Final Frontier”

just as a side comment: I didn’t like The Motion Picture very much either, but the “v-ger” reveal/gimmick was quite clever

Correction: The Motionless Picture.

I should have remembered the title, being that it’s mentioned in everything Star Trek related!:smack:

The V’Ger reveal and hinting of the Borg were about the only things I liked out of TMP.

I have all 11 movies on Blu-ray. V:TFF looks even worse now.

What is this Star Trek V of which you speak??

I dunno, I’m thinking it must be some fanfic crossover between Star Trek and V.

Unfortunately, I am about to out myself as the Biggest Geek in the World™, but so be it…

In the seventh season TNG episode “Inheritance,” it is revealed that Data actually has an aging program to make him look visibly older as the years pass, just like his so-called mother, who indeed looks like a 60 or 70-whatever woman. So I don’t understand Spiner’s concerns about looking too old.

Of course, you may ask, then why didn’t Future Data look visibly wrinklier (aside from the gray hair which he seemed to have done deliberately) in “All Good Things”? That would be a good question.

No worries, I’m using Netflix to watch every season of TNG, then DS9, then Voyager. I’ll try Enterprise, and if I finish that, then I’ll be done with Netflix.

Why does Data’s death have to make sense?

It doesn’t always make sense in real life. Good people die. Sometimes in rather “silly” ways, like choking on a pretzel.
