exactly which questions are unanswered as of now?
Yep. There are definitely more than five. Zefram Cochrane, for example, is one I didn’t think of while remembering the five I had in mind. I figure he’s safe to name since his appearances have already been mentioned.
They have to have acted in that episode, FOR that episode (which is why I ruled out “Trials and Tribble-ations,” since they just spliced and digitally altered existing footage). Pictures or verbal references don’t count, while voicework does. Movies count as part of whichever series their central cast comes from. Star Trek III therefore counts as part of TOS, First Contact with TNG, etc. I’m not quite sure how to classify Generations, though. I think of it as a TNG movie with guest appearances by TOS cast members, but one might be able to make the case that it’s a hybrid.
First two are right, but she didn’t play Seska. You’re in the right neighborhood though.
Question about the rules, Elendil’s Heir: I’ve been pretty greedy with the questions so far. If we answer one, does that mean we can only ask one?
Then Majel Barrett, who has appeared as “Computer Voice” in TNG, DS9 and Voyager.
Majel also qualifies for three different roles, four actually counting Computer Voice. There’s CV, Number One, Christine Chapel and Luxanna Troi.
If flashbacks, delusions and dream sequences count then Brock Peters played Admiral Cartwright, Big Daddy Sisko and the street preacher from Bejamin Sisko’s 50s SF magazine delusion. Rene Auberblahblah would count as well for his roles as Major West, Odo and Ben Sisko’s office-mate from the same delusion. Arguably you could say he also played Curzon Dax in the ep in which Jadzia splits her former hosts off into temp bodies in the Trill ritual. Brent Spiner played Data, Lore, Noonian Soong, B-4 and also various holodeck characters in “Fistful of Datas.”
If TAS counts as a separate iteration, then James Doohan has appeared as a vast number of characters since he voiced almost every male character not voiced by Shatner, Nimoy or Kelley. IIRC Nichelle Nichols did a lot of additional voice work for TAS too so she would also count as having played a number of female characters there.
Diana Muldaur played Miranda Jones, Thalassa (I think, the female disembodied intellect building an android body) and Dr Pulaski.
Depending on how you count it, Robert Picardo played the holo-programmer on a DS9 ep, the EMH in Voyager, the EMH in First Contact, the holo-projection of the holo-programmer on Voyager and a multitude of discarded and enslaved EMH programs on Voyager. He definitely qualifies for the three iteration category and IMHO qualifies for the three (or more) character category.
- What song could Riker not get right on the trombone?
Somebody else said the song was Misty but I"m sure the correct answer is Night Bird. Could be both though. He never was all that good on the trombone.
Oh, and a slew of people played Prophets in various visions, so do if we count them as separate roles then add another role each for Rene Auberblahblah and Brock Peters.

Crap, I wish I’d mentioned posessions and visions, since that gives us too many to list. We can go with those, but don’t give up on that one! There are a lot of people outside of the central cast with quite a variety of roles, and there are quite a few people on that list haven’t had all their roles ID’ed yet.
Kang (Michael Ansara) appeared on TOS, DS9 and VOY.
Q–TNG, DS9, VOY

Khan, I’ve already answered the one about the Klingon Kirk said he would kill, but didn’t. It was Maltz.
On the Faragut, Kirk made an enemy of Ben Finney when he reported some valve or something that Finney left open when he should have checked and closed it. Finney drew a reprimand, thus dashing any hope of an advanced career.
The two assassins were Burke and Samno.
TOS time travel: The Naked Time, Tomorrow Is Yesterday, The City On The Edge of Forever, Assignment: Earth, All Our Yesterdays
Many actors have been on Trek and B5. Off the top of my head: Walter Koenig, John Schuck, Julie Caitlin Brown (I think), or maybe it was Something Kay Adams, Andreas Katsulas, Bill Mumy, Robert Foxworth (in fact, his character on B5 was killed off because Foxworth’s agent accientally booked Foxworth for B5 and DS9 the same week, and Foxworth chose to honor the Ds9 commitment, pissing JMS off).

Suzie Plakson (red hair and all) played “Mrs. Q” on VOY.

We need a definitive ruling on whether the following count for characters and iterations: dreams; visions (Prophet-induced or otherwise); holograms of otherwise existing people; delusions; hallucinations.
Three or more characters continued:
William Shatner: Kirk, Janice Lester, Thalassa’s mate, Android Kirk (“What Are Little Girls Made Of?”)
Leonard Nimoy: Spock, the third disembodied intellect, Medusan ambassador
Characters in three or more iterations:
James Doohan: Scotty (TOS, TAS, TNG)
DeForest Kelley: McCoy (TOS, TAS, TNG)
Leonard Nimoy: Spock (TOS, TAS, TNG)
George Takei: Sulu (TOS, TAS, Voyager)
And I’m not even going to mention how the list of unanswered questions leaves off every single one of my unanswered questions…
I just reread the thread, Otto. Most of your questions are on Khan’s recap. The one that isn’t concerned the historical people in “The Savage Curtain.”
Honest Abe
Surak
Colonel Green
Kahless
Genghis Khan (or Jenjiz, if you wanna go all John Kerry)
and… damn…
Was it Zora? Something like that. That Big-Haired Chick from Vagina IV (or wherever) who experimented on people.
How’s that?
Sir Rhosis
I remember TAS had a K’zin as a crew member (I was devouring the Larry Niven books at the time) but I disagreed with that particular visualization of the race; so if they had a K’zin, was Arex a puppeteer?
Tasha Yar, The lieutenant Data created a special program for, did he get that deep with Tasha’s sister? There was the technophile from doomed colony on the radiation saturated planet that was about to be claimed by the hostile race, and The Borg Queen; but Data could not be truly said to be involved, since he is an andriod and without the emotion chip, incapable of feeling anything
Damnit. I knew that. When I read the questions I thought that was an Enterprise reference. For some reason I think “Enterprise” when I hear mercenary and Klingon together.
Not a trivia question, but how did he try to get revenge? I want to say that he faked his own death so Kirk would be blamed and get a mark on his record too (with Kirk’s demotion in STIV, you’d think he got the last laugh anyway).
Considering the sheer volume of possessions, visions, and holograms between TOS and DS9 alone, I suggest we disqualify any “new” characters on that basis. That said, the likes of Prophet Odo and Sargon Scotty don’t count. When I made up the question, I had in mind cases like Suzie Plakson and Mark Lenard.
Glad you brought that up too. I’m also thinking that we include TAS as part of TOS along with movies I-VI. What do you guys think of that?
Well, you originally had a lot on the list, but when I previewed quite a few of them had been answered. Sorry about the historical figure one, though. When I made my partial list, I triple checked and still couldn’t find the post where someone made a partial list of the ships Worf commanded. Considering that, I’m not surprised I missed a few.
Well, since I’ve answered a bunch, I think it is time for me to throw a few out there.
A. Where did Mr. Scott’s first name of Montgomery come from?
B. During the TOS movies which regular actor besides Shatner wore a toupee?
C. What episode first mentioned Tiberius as Kirk’s middle name? Which movie mentioned it?
D. What was the name of the ship in Roddenberry’s very first series outline back in 1964?
E. What was Picard’s first name before it was changed to Jean-Luc?

C) VI. Christopher Plummer really SPAT it out too. He sure did some good work there.
D) Yorktown
Some Vulcan questions:
What was the name of Spock’s ancestral ceremonial grounds?
What goal did Spock fail to reach, and what did it require of him?
What was the species of animal that Spock had as a pet growing up and that menaced Archer in “The Forge?”
What was the name of the weapon Kirk and Spock used to fight each other in Amok Time (hint: it was a long staff with a blade at one end and a bludgeon at the other)?
Right. He faked his own death, along with a visual record of Kirk ejecting an observation pod during an ion storm, leading to the events of “Court Martial.” But since Kirk was ultimately happiest captaining a starship he wasn’t all that upset about the demotion, and Starfleet Command probably viewed it as a reward more than a punishment.
Hmm. So do we count Shatner or not? I say yes, because even without Sargon (who possessed Kirk but was voiced by Doohan) we have Kirk, Lester and Android Kirk. But Lester could also be viewed as a “possession.” And Nimoy would have two “possessions” so I guess he’s off the list.
Well, if you’re gonna take me all literally and junk when I’m being grumpy…
OK, so, I haven’t asked any questions in a while, so:
> Reversing a previous question, what character has been played by the most actors?
> Name all of Kirk’s known relatives.
> According to Uhura, what color is the ball?
One was the lirpa and the other was the ahn-woon, but I never remember which one is which. I’m pretty sure the lirpa is the one with the blade, and the ahn-woon is the strap.
I just answered 2 of them
James Doohan
Another question about the rules: if we happen to be reading an article on a Star Trek site or watching an episode when we notice some worthy piece of trivia, does that violate the rule against looking things up? I’ve been reading up on the franchise since this thread started, but I don’t want to do anything cheap.
